Healthy snacking on-the-go

Categories:

Try It

The Mister and I both have lifestyles that require us to travel every now and then. As you know, we went to Columbus this weekend and the Mister is currently in the Big Apple. Instead of relying on unhealthy (and pricey!) fast-food, snacks and beverages, I like to save calories and money by preparing snacks and small meals that are easy to travel with.

With some mindful purchases and a plethora of zip-loc bags, you too can make sure you always have healthy options when you tummy starts to rumble.

You’ll want to make sure that your snacks don’t require constant refrigeration and don’t create a lot of waste (i.e. a peel or core can be annoying to hold on to or have to get rid of). You’ll also want to consider snacks that easily fit into a purse, briefcase or carry-on bag.

Snack ideas:

Beef jerky, nuts, snow peas, baby carrots, fresh mushrooms, grapes, vitatops, apple slices, protein and granola bars, dry cereal/granola, dried fruit, popcorn

A tip: determine the portion size and measure it out into a zip-loc bag. Now you won’t have to worry about mindlessly over-eating! You’ll know that when the snack is gone, so is “snack-time.” This will prevent you from loosing track of all your “handfuls”

What are your favorite on-the-go snacks? Why?
