Try it – Healthy ways to beat the heat

Try It

Holy bajoly it.is.hot.

With temperatures rising into the 90s this past weekend, all I wanted was to stay indoors – preferably with my body coated in ice ;)

But I don’t want to miss out on the summer funtivities, either! Luckily, I can have it both ways, I just have to keep a few tricks in mind when exercising in the heat.

Exercise Early in the Morning or Late at Night - It’s normally 20 degrees cooler in the early morning or late evening, so reschedule our workouts during those times. Just remember to take a buddy if it’s dark outside.

Pre-soak – Stand over the sink and drench your hair with water. When it’s completely soaked, wrap it in a bun. As you run or bike ride, the breeze on your wet hair will keep you cool.

If you can’t exercise in a cool, shady place, then wear a hat or visor — addee bonus? they’ll also protect your eyes from dripping sweat ;)

Swim with the fishies! – Take advantage of the water and burn calories while swimming, kayaking, water skiing, snorkeling, or surfing. The water will keep you cool, but it can also add resistance to make your workouts even more effective.

Stay hydrated - make sure you drink your water! And POPSICLES are one of my favorite hydrating treats – need I say more?

Also — take advantage of your neighborhood sprinklers! If you see one, make a run for it! THROUGH the sprinkler. Connect with your inner kid and you’ll have a blast (and keep cool!)

What are your favorite ways to beat the heat?
