Happy Fashion Friday!!!!
One of the many perks of being a professional model is always getting the inside scoop on the latest fashion trends, fabrics and colors. Working in a creative environment professionally, also forces me put effort into my outfits every day. As a creative advertising/PR agency, we’re expected to be forward thinking, cutting edge and creative.
Whether I like it or not, colleagues, clients, editors, and ad-reps will form their first impression on me based on my ‘cover.’ Of course I’ll need to use my talent and creativity to keep their interest and prove myself, but it’s no secret that first-impressions are everything – in business, relationships, heck, life in general. Think about it – what would you be more drawn to: a granola packaged in a clean, simple and modern box or a granola in a puke-green/brown opaque baggy? We make decisions every day based on how things look.
It’s also important to note the context of the situation for which you are dressing. Trip to the grocery store? Casual? Dressy? Interview? Work? Sexy date night? Meeting the boyfriend’s parents? As you know, we’re all about finding the right balance between trendy and over-the-top, sexy and slutty, professional and drab, comfortable and sloppy… the list goes on.
Here at thedailybalance, I’ll help answer your fashion questions on ANYTHING. I mean it! Can you wear white after labor day (YES! This isn’t 1950, people…)? Can you mix patterns (as long as you don’t resemble a patchwork ragdoll, I think you’re good)? What are the best things (and colors) to wear to an interview? Any trends to part with this year? Hot up-coming trends to look out for? Are there certain cuts/silhouettes you should steer clear from due to body type? (in my opinion the tapered leg should be BANNED for all body types. Seriously. it. is. retched.) Which cuts work best with those sexy curves you’ve got? No matter what it is, I’ve got ya covered!
With the economy the way it is, I’m certainly not willing to shell out top-dollar for clothes right now! Sure, there are certain exceptions and splurges when a REALLY nice piece goes on sale that would add to your collection, but for the most part, I’m all about making new, budget-friendly pieces work with what you’ve got.
So before we get started, I suggest you first evaluate your existing wardrobe.

I’ll get around to sharing some photos of my closet with you guys. Confession: My husband and I rent a 3 bedroom house. We use the largest room for our bedroom and utilize one of the other rooms as an office. The third bedroom? Yea, that’s my closet. We bought walk-in closet shelves and organized and transformed the entire room. It still isn’t enough space. Please don’t judge! I’ve accumulated LOTS of clothes over time (through modeling jobs, shows, etc.) – plus I think my mother suffers from borderline shoppaholic disorder (I’m NOT kidding!) — so I’m not the only one to blame for my massive collection.
Funny story: With the economy and housing market the way it is The Mister and I have been talking about buying a house in the near future. Upon thinking about this seriously, we started making a running list of what a house we purchase MUST have.
Pretty simple stuff, such as:
- Central Air
- Garage
- Room for exercise equipment and office
See? Simple stuff?
In addition to this list, we need to take my clothing into consideration. I feel in love with a house the other day (I secretly look at them on-line and envision myself twirling about-If I can’t see myself twirling, the house is out). Anyway, I found an AWESOME house and immediately showed The Mister. His immediate concern? “Honey, but there are only 3 bedrooms, where would we put your clothes?”
Yikes.
Don’t judge.
Like I said, I’ll post a pic at some point, just want you guys to get to know me a bit better before I embarrass myself
OK, now the fun can begin!
Each week, I invite you to share your favorite outfit of the week with us! I’ll highlight my top favorites on the blog and everyone will vote and select our Friday Fashionista! The winner will receive a little prize and of course, bragging rights!
While I consider myself pretty well versed in the fashion world, I love seeing what other people are doing! You’ll never know what will inspire you or what outfit you’ll see where you’ll think “my gosh, I have such similar pieces and I’ve never thought of pairing them that way!”
I’m excited to see all of your personalities shine through in your outfits you select to share each week. I’ll also share my favorite outfit of the week. Keep in mind that the outfit can be for anything – casual lunch, bummin’ around the house, fancy dinner, you name it.
In tandem with the contest, I’ll also share some of the hottest trends off the runway and how you can make them work in the context of your day-to-day wardrobe. I encourage you all to share your own fashion stories and tips, as well!
As promised, here is one of my favorite outfits I wore this week:

While I realize this isn’t the most ‘cutting-edge’ or trendy outfits, I love its simplicity. It goes to show you that you take an extremely simple dress and pair it with some stand-out accessories to create a unique and stylish look.
