Daily Delish – Eating like Angelina Jolie

Keeping with the Angelina Jolie’s of the week (Girl Interrupted, anyone?), I let the “supporting roles” steal the spotlight once again.

I made a meal out of three of them at P.F. Chang’s just the other night. The cast of characters:

Sauteed mushrooms, grilled asparagus and brown rice. The makings of a perfect meal. This was all followed up by a delicious twist cone with crunch coat from the Dairy Queen — crunch coat might be one of my favorite things in this world. After buttercream icing. And butter.

What is everyone up to this weekend?

I have a fun day planned in Amish country with my mother-in-law and Mama tomorrow! That leaves Sunday pretty much open, I’m sure I’ll drag the Mister somewhere interesting ;)

Daily Delish – The best thing I’ve eaten all month

Behold:

A poor photo? Yes, but that’s not what I want to talk about.

Instead, let’s talk about this shrimp cocktail. Yes, this was listed as “shrimp cocktail” on the menu and I too, was surprised.

I was also surprised to discover that just a few simple ingredients could be so gosh-darn delicious. See, this was no ordinary shrimp cocktail, no sirree.

The “cocktail” featured a small bed of mixed greens with fresh shrimp and croutons, drizzled with a cocktail sauce “dressing.” OK yes, that sounds lovely, but wait, there’s more. All this sits on top of a lovely cloud of horseradish mixed with cream cheese. The cream cheese balances out the spicy kick of the horseradish. But the tart, sweet cocktail sauce then takes the flavor combination over-the-top, making you pray to the gods that it makes like a gobstopper and never ends.

Hands down, the best thing I ate all month.

What’s the best thing YOU’VE eaten this month?

Daily Delish – When the “supporting act” steals the show

Sometimes it’s the side dishes that “make” a meal.

Case and point:

Isn’t it funny how you might order an elaborate, equally delish meal, but remember the side dish? – or tapenade!

In honor of my favorite side dishes, I thought I’d call them out on the blog and give them the props they deserve ;)

White Beans – Chinato

Mac N’ Cheese – Boston Market (yes, I went there)

Tater tots – Happy Dog

GARLIC TWIST ROLLS – Pasquales

Chips and Guac – Paladar

MEAT SAUCE – Trattoria

Sesame Oil – TAZA

Do you have a restaurant you go where you look more forward to the sides than the main dish?!

Daily Delish – I’ll tap dance for tapenade!

Despite all the extravagant, gourmet food the Mister and I enjoyed on our vacation, it’s the simple stuff I can’t forget. Like The W’s tapenade. Made with fresh olives and black beans, this was the best tapenade I’ve ever tasted. I’d love to re-create it myself, but I fear my limited knowledge on tapenade ingredient ratios will hinder my ability. W, Vieques – can you help a foodie out?!

Any other foodies out there, have you seen (or made!) a similar recipe?

Just look at the spreadable heaven!

Ah, to be in paradise again.

Are you a fan of tapenade? What was the tastiest thing you’ve tried on vacation?

Daily Delish – Giant Soup

OK, people, I know I tend to exaggerate. In fact, many times the Mister simply refuses to believe my “tales.” I mean come on, though — adding some fun details never hurts, right? ;)

But this time, my friends? I am NOT exaggerating.

This time, I’ll even attempt to under-exaggerate. Fair?

OK.

Yesterday I received the biggest bowl of soup I’ve EVER seen. It contained at least a 1/4 gallon of broth. And probably a half pound of pasta.

Take a look at the evidence:

What you can’t see:

How high the bowl was (about 6 inches)

My head (it would be good to see for scale, as the soup bowl was bigger than it)

VeggieGirl, giggling in the background

I’m pretty sure I had to hobble out of the restaurant – and I only ate about 1/4 of it!

If you want to drown yourself too, head over to Pacific East and order the chicken udon soup (I chose the buckwheat noodles, fyi)

Where were you served the biggest portion of food you ever tried to eat?
