Homemade canvas art
Categories:
We’re rolling up our sleeves over here today. It’s time for an art project.
Ladies (and gentlemen – I’m looking at you, Carolina!), put the fancy threads away. Just because something says it’s washable, doesn’t mean it really is. May you rest in piece, cashmere cardigan.
Onward!
You’ll need:
- A canvas (or two!) — like this one
- Punch out alphabet letters (found at Michaels or Joanns or your local craft store) — like these
- Mod Podge (word to the wise, don’t call it “hodge podge” and expect the store associate to have any idea what you are talking about)
That’s it!
First, figure out what you want your canvas to say. Pick a favorite quote, a song lyric or keep it simple and use a name (baby’s name, your last name, YOUR name). Next, arrange your letters on the canvas as you want them to appear to make sure you have the spacing right.
Next, put a layer of mod podge on the canvas. Set your letters on top of the layer of mod podge (immediately!). Immediately cover with another layer of mod podge. Let dry roughly 2-3 hours and add additional mod podge, if needed.
I kept my canvases with a “matte” finish, but feel free to spruce things up by choosing mod podge with GLITTER!
Have fun with it – art isn’t supposed to be perfect.
