Typical Toddler Diet
Categories:
I’ve received lots of emails over the past few weeks in regards to diet. But not my own — Sawyer’s! I shared my Baby Food 101 tips quite some time ago, So I figured it was time for an update. Our little boy is growing up – and so is his diet.
I figured it’s be easiest to share his schedule (more on that later) with his typical selections (yes, he tells me what he wants).
5:00-5:30 WAKE UP (thank you for your condolences)
Munch on puffs or Earth’s Best crackers
8:00 BREAKFAST
Earth’s Best blueberry waffle OR yobaby/yotoddler Stoneyfield Farms yogurt
+ fruit (cut up strawberries, blackberries, banana, kiwi) and milk
10:00 SNACK
Cheese stick + piece of fruit (orange/kiwi/banana)
OR
Cottage cheese and fruit
OR
Crackers and milk with fruit
11:30 LUNCH
Mac and cheese (homemade or Annie’s) [veggie tip - stir in a 1/2 jar of sweet potatoes or carrots!] OR grilled cheese with ham OR cottage cheese OR yogurt OR grilled chicken
+ bowl of fruit
+ cooked carrots or potatoes
1:00/1:30 – NAP
3:00 SNACK
Piece of fruit and yogurt or cheese (boy loves his dairy)
5:00/5:30 DINNER
One of the following: Mac and cheese (with veggie mixed in), grilled cheese with ham, mini pizza (English muffin or pita with sauce and cheese)
+cooked veggies – favorite is carrots
+fruit
Bedtime snack – 6:30
Sometimes, depending on if he ate enough at dinner, we’ll enjoy one of these yogurt bars together. He calls it ICE CREAM!
BEDTIME – 7:00
Note: I’ve tried pushing bedtime back many times in an attempt to extend wake time in the morning. Our little man is a lark and will rise with the sun no matter what we do. In order to make sure he gets the sleep he needs, he has a pretty early bed time. And if it were up to him, he’d go to bed at 6 p.m. and wake at 4:00 a.m., so I’m just fine with our arrangement thankyouverymuch. Everyone has to do what works best for them and their family!
So there you have it – a day in the life of Sawyer’s tummy!
Also note that I’m constantly trying to get him to try new things – just yesterday we attempted potato soup with peas and corn — it all ended up in the trash. But we keep trying new tastes and flavors. He will eat any fruit (and loves it!), but we struggle a bit more in the veggie department. So I sneak it in where I can with cooked noodles or on top of his “pizzas.” We always give him a taste of what we’re having — sometimes he surprises us with what he likes! But for the most part, we provide healthy options and let him decide what he wants to eat. In the end, we have a happy, healthy little eater.
And at least we know we can rely on pizza as a last resort
[for the record, he just had a few bites of it - Whole Foods makes such good za!]

Hi,
My name is Zhanna and found out about your blog through Dawn Kaczynski. I started my blog two wks ago and I was excited to learn there is another local blogger. I love your site and was wondering if you can share some advice.
Thank you,
Zhanna
Zhanna, your blog is beautiful – I love it! I should be asking YOU for advice
Thanks for sharing!
Try grilling some eggplant with lots of olive oil. Raffi LOVES it and because of the oil it is really easy for him to eat (which is an issue Sawyer might not have with his teeth).
