When in doubt, just go to bed…

I haven’t wanted to say much about this on the blog yet in fear of cursing myself, but it’s been a few weeks, so here goes…

Bean sleeps at least 8 hours without waking at night.

I know, several mothers want to kill me.

And I’m OK with that.

A few weeks ago, the Mister and I noticed that bean started getting pretty sleepy around 6:30/7:00. I nurse him one final time between the 6:30-8:00 time frame and he is down for the night — at least 8 hours, sometimes more. He’ll typically wake back up around 3 or 4 (although the other night he lasted till 5!) and I’ll nurse him again, sending him back to sleep for another 3-4 hours.

Praise. The. Lord.

Now, before you start hating me too much, this miracle does come with it’s own set of issues.

I am TERRIFED of messing up his schedule. From what I’ve heard, some babies take months (even years!) to be able to sleep this well. I’m certainly not about to do ANYTHING that might mess with a good thing.

Like put him in the stroller and go for an evening walk…

or pile him in the car for a late night ice cream treat…

or bundle him up to sleep quietly while Daddy and I dine at a restaurant…

see where I’m going with this? After 7:00, Bean calls the shots and for the most part, we’re stuck at home.

Instead of letting it bother us (we’d be insane to let it!), we’ve been heading up to bed early to watch TV, cuddle, and get some much-needed shut-eye.

Good thing I’m a homebody. Next thing you know, We’re going to turn into one of those couples who spends their evenings on the porch watching everyone else and sipping tea. Don’t tell the Mister, but … I can’t wait ;)

We do the exact same thing, on the exact same schedule. (except kyla sleeps til about 6:30 am :P ) Don’t mess with the schedule!!!! We did once and it took us about a week to get her back to sleeping through the night.

  2. I’m so happy for you!!!

My first “baby” (now a teenager in college) was an “easy baby.” He slept through the night starting at 8 weeks and was always a good sleeper (but got up really early for many years). I never knew how lucky I had been until the toddler came along. It took him 2 1/2 years to sleep through the night…

I’m with you on being trapped at home. My little monster goes down at 6:30 pm on the dot and sleeps until 6:30am. I’m not doing ANYTHING to mess with that :)

I wouldn’t mess with that either! If you needed to go out or wanted to you, that is what Grandma is for..to help watch Bean :)

Aww, precious picture. Glad he is sleeping for you. Maybe you can occasionally get a sitter, so you can get out of the house. :)

    Enjoy it! That’s fantastic news.

The boyfriend and I are both total homebodies. Sometimes staying in is the BEST :)

  8. How awesome!! I think scheduling is such a necessity and hope that I can do it as well as you have. What an adorable pic, too :)

But this is perfect! My first one did this too. While you are putting the bean (I love that nickname) to bed, have the mister pick up the sitter and you guys go out for the night! What fun!!! I would do this once a week with my mister. I instructed the sitter to call if the baby woke up (and of course what to do if she did), but to call me as soon as possible. We never went too far from home so I could come home if she woke up.

  10. My son was the same way. Don’t worry about messing up his schedule too much. My son worked it out. However, I would still rather cuddle too.
