Of the essence

Try It

When you have a baby, timing is everything. Because you know, I’m now an expert on the subject.

One misstep, one false sense of “he’s not hungry yet,” and the whole system crumbles. Think I’m being over dramatic? Try driving 15 minutes home with a screaming child who’s hungry — if that’s not your ticket to mother-of-the-year, I don’t know what is.

So when I was at the grocery store this past weekend (while my Mama sat with Bean in the car) and I spotted the line for the deli, my heart started palpitating.

Side note: I don’t know about your grocery store, but I believe the people who work at my deli are auditioning for a role on MTVs boiling points. Seriously. I think they like to see how long they can make someone wait before they completely wig out. I’ve come this close. So when I saw that there were a good 10 people in front of me, I knew it was time to go to plan B.

Even if it meant I’d have to spend double what I normally do for turkey.

The turkey I buy at the deli normally costs $8.99/pound. Instead, I opted for the grab-n-go variety, which cost $6.99 for eight measly ounces.

But I was on borrowed time, people, borrowed time.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

You know, like keep your child in his car seat on the floor of the kitchen while you scramble to make yourself a sandwich that you can scarf down before he wakes up. It’s times like those that make a few extra bucks totally worth it.

Sandwich was quickly assembled with provolone cheese, lotsa spinach and smashed between an Arnold Sandwich Thin.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to load the dishwasher while I make a cup of coffee, moisturize my face and start dinner for the Mister — you know, cuz time is of the essence ;)

For those of you who care, this turkey was kinda out-of-this-world delish. I now KIND of understand the price…

  4. [...] Don’t get me wrong I LOOOOOVE shopping at specialty stores like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and gourmet food shops with fun products. I HATE the weekly shopping trips to stock up on essentials and inevitably wait in tedious lines at the meat counter. [...]
