“Yes, I’m married. Yes, this was planned”

Anyone have a silk screener? Make me a shirt that says the above — I’ll take 5 of ‘em in every color.
Let me paint the picture for ya.
When I’m out with the Mister, I receive loving, encouraging glances and smiles from women and men of all ages. “What an adorable couple,” they must be thinking “How sweet that they are starting a family.”
Now let’s take a moment to consider the reactions I receive when I’m with my mother — or my mom and dad together. Scans up and down, laced with judgement and disapproval. I know what they are thinking “Those poor parents who now have to support their high school daughter who couldn’t use a condom.”
You think I’m kidding?! I am dead serious people — the difference is mind-boggling – inarguable! Granted I don’t look the most “professional” when I’m out and about on the weekends with my mom — imagine cute sweats/leggings with little to no make up. And yes, I’ll admit that I’ve been carded a few times this year…at an “R” RATED MOVIE! (note, I’m 26) But still….
Imagine my horror when my wedding ring started getting a bit tight after long walks! I knew I had to shed it from the finger (or risk eventually having to get it CUT off) quick. My first move? A trip to the jewelry counter to get a *fake* replacement — I was not about to look unwed to those who actually took the time to evaluate my ring finger.
And as a side note: even if I were UNWED, 16 and pregnant — the dirty looks still wouldn’t be acceptable. Each women does the best she can and circumstances are never known, so really, judgement is never appropriate. I just find it even more frustrating since I’m actually 10 years older, married for nearly 5 years and planned to make our little boy from scratch quite sometime ago
Don’t worry — In classic Shannon-style, I give them a run for the money. Just the other day I volunteered to be the one to run to the store and purchase all the beer for a client’s xmas gift
Hey, if I’m going to be judged, I might as well have fun.
