First Impressions

This weekend the Mister and I bought baby clothes.

I know, I know, everyone says DON’T BUY clothes. But most of the clothes we received at the shower were 3-6 months and well, we can’t have the Little hanging out in his birthday suit for the first three months here on earth – after all, it is the middle of winter!

So off to the store we went.

Key findings:

Yes, I wanted to buy *almost* everything. And at one point, so did the Mister! I was actually the one holding HIM back (guess we know who’s going to be the one who spoils the little guy at every turn ;) ) But we only ended up purchasing a few items — one of which that will ultimately become THE GOING HOME OUTFIT.

Going home outfit? (you may be asking yourself)

I too, was rather puzzled.

Well apparently this is a BIG DEAL, people.

And here I thought the little guy would just be wrapped up in some standard swaddling cloth and we’d be sent on our merry way.

Which only goes to show just how much I have to learn. No need to send emails or leave nasty comments, I have since been informed and we are well on our way to selecting an outfit. (That sounds odd, but you have no idea how hardcore some people are on this kinda stuff)

We are currently debating traditional or trendy…colorful or neutral…layered or simplistic…the opportunities are endless! This is after all our little man’s first reveal to the rest of the world — and first impressions are everything.

If you need me, I’ll likely be passed out in the nursery surrounded by monkey, monster and train appliques. Send help.

    I DO need you!!

  2. Wow, I assumed they just wrapped the baby up and sent the happy family on its way. Who knew there was so much formality to it? I’m sure you’ll pick something cute!

  3. How fun! I’m sure the little guy will look stunning in his going home outfit! And yes, it is a BIG DEAL!!! :) Just make sure it’s super easy to put on (and take off!)…

Enjoy this magical time in your life!!!

  4. I never realized what a big deal the “going home outfit” was until my best friend had a baby this past October. Both moms (well, grandmas to baby) and her soon to be sister-in-law all wanted to buy the outfit.

As a mom of two boys, I just want to offer a small bit of advice – not that you are asking for it, of course. Those teeny tiny clothes tend to fit for about 2 weeks and then they are into the 3-6 month stuff. I would buy mostly pj type things for the smallest size because that is what they are wearing most of the time anyway. You will be changing his clothes multiple times a day so you will want stuff that is easy to take off and put on. With my first one, I got so many cute tiny things that he never wore. Save the cute stuff for the 6-12 month or 12-18 month time frame. Good luck to you!
