Daily Delish – Pumpkin Ice Cream and Fall Flashbacks
Categories:
Pumpkin. Is there really a better flavor out there? From pies, to lattes, ice cream and cream cheese, pumpkin seems to capture my heart each and every fall. I often wonder where my deep adoration for the beloved vegetable comes from. I’m sure being born on Halloween had something to do with it… Or was it my grandpa always challenging a family member in a game of billiards for the very last piece — winner got extra whipped cream, of course.
I remember carving pumpkins with my dad and gingerly setting aside each little seed so that we could toast them up later with salt and butter. For me, it’s not just that pumpkin is delicious — but it’s a flavor of “home.” A transporter, if you will — taking me back to dressing up like an Indian on Thanksgiving with my brother as the pilgrim, sitting uncomfortably as my Mom tweaked Halloween costumes and making our annual trip to Patterson’s fruit farm to stock up on pumpkin doughnuts. To this day, I think that’s why I love pumpkin so much — sure it’s mouthwatering — but the cozy warmth comes from all the memories.
Last night I welcomed them all with open arms as I enjoyed my FIRST pumpkin ice cream of the season. Pumpkin ice cream topped with marshmallow, pecans and whipped cream. I challenge you to come up with something more delicious — you simply cannot.
What memories do you relive when you enjoy pumpkin treats?
