Daily Delish – When the “supporting act” steals the show

Daily Delish

Sometimes it’s the side dishes that “make” a meal.

Case and point:

Isn’t it funny how you might order an elaborate, equally delish meal, but remember the side dish? – or tapenade!

In honor of my favorite side dishes, I thought I’d call them out on the blog and give them the props they deserve ;)

White Beans – Chinato

Mac N’ Cheese – Boston Market (yes, I went there)

Tater tots – Happy Dog

GARLIC TWIST ROLLS – Pasquales

Chips and Guac – Paladar

MEAT SAUCE – Trattoria

Sesame Oil – TAZA

Do you have a restaurant you go where you look more forward to the sides than the main dish?!

  1. Sides are so often more fun for me! You mentioned mac ‘n cheese – I am in love with Panera (could live there, I think), and their mac ‘n cheese is awesome!

A Cajun restaurant called Nolas for their cornbread :) . Italian place for their garlic dipping oil.

  3. OooohHhhhhhh. The sesame oil and super fluffy pitas at Taza are so divine!!!! Also a big fan of the sweet potato fries with honey at great lakes!

  4. I’m obsessed with the slaw at Melt. Forget the grilled cheese: give me their Brussels sprouts and a huge pile of slaw and I’m one happy woman.

Also, my hubby won’t stop talking about the mac and cheese at XO downtown. It is REALLY good. We went their for our 2nd anniversary in 2008 and he’s still talking about it. I attempted to make it for our third anniversary – it was close, but not exactly right. Guess we just have to go back for our fourth!

It’s too early in the morning (and I haven’t had my cup of coffee yet) to think of examples, but it happens all the time. I love side dishes!!

You are spot on with the Paladar and Taza sides…. YUM!!! Another addition, and quite indulgent, are the pom frittes at Bar Cento. I rarely order fries, but I can’t go there without getting some because they are so stinkin’ good!

    • still haven’t been to bar cento — i am SUCH a wuss when it comes to making it out to the west side, even though i know there are countless amazing places – i just have to GET to them all!
