Try it – Just Breathe

Try It

Remember when Grey’s Anatomy was still one of my favorite shows? Oh yea, we still hadn’t met yet. It was about 4/5 years ago. Anyway it was the same year that Anna Nalick chick came out with that “breathe” song, made famous by the show. I loved the song…the first 29386 times I heard it. Just kidding. It was overplayed for a reason — great song.

And a great message, too.

Just breathe.

It sounds good in theory, doesn’t it? But how often do we put it to practice? How often do you turn off the voices in you head (not THOSE kind!) you know, the streaming thoughts, worries, to-dos. How often do you just STOP. Stop thinking, stop planning, stop moving.

Let’s do it together. I promise it’ll be OK. You can get back to all your crap when we’re done. Also, I’ve installed secret devices in your computer and I’ll know if you don’t participate. I swear – DO NOT test me.

OK, close your eyes.

Not yet, silly — wait until I’m done speaking, er…typing, to you. When I say GO, close your eyes and clear your mind. Take 15 strong breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth. Relax your shoulders. Focus on your breath. Feel the tension release from your neck. Roll your head around if you want to. If you feel silly sitting around in silence, go ahead and put on one of your favorite songs — just make sure it’s RELAXING. Now is not the time to get the urge to bump and grind.

OK, I’m done babbling.

GO.

how amazing was that? do you feel the difference? do you remember to breathe?

Wanna kick things up a notch? Go outside, raise your arms to the sky and repeat.

We know that focusing on our breathing can effect our neurology in positive ways. It makes you wonder how many other things if we gave careful thought and internal examination to we could have positive effects. Once a day at least I have to take a moment and simply reset by doing a few deep breathing and positive thought cycles to try and help manage all the chaos that is juggled.

    Thanks for the reminder. @ciordia9

  5. Ahh, yes! That song always reminds me of old school Grey’s Anatomy…before it went downhill :-(

  6. I totally remember the episode I first heard that song on. And would be lying if I said I wasn’t obsessed with it… Oh how I loved old school Grey’s- I wish it would get back to how good it used to be!

    I couldn’t do it… try as I might, I just couldn’t. I guess that says something about high-strung I can sometimes get… :(

I’ll try again sometime. Thanks, though! :)

  8. Breathing is one of my go-to de-stressing strategies…when I can actually get myself to slow down enough to pay attention to my breath, it works wonders!

  10. Gotta remember to breath during finals. I swear I have come out of exams with my face all red haha.

  11. I can never seem to turn off the voices in my head. Even after an hour of yoga my mind always seems to still be wandering.

  15. Wow I love this post! That was the best 15 breaths I’ve taken in a long time. The truth is most of the time we breath the wrong way. We do shallow breathing, but it’s much more relaxing and less stressing to breath correctly. Thanks for reminding us of this!!
