Clean freak or stinkball?

Happy Fashion Friday! The Mister and I have a BIG weekend planned! We’re headed to Columbus to visit two of our best friends and their adorable girls and also attend a COUPLES Bridal Shower (yes, you read that right). The Mister isn’t exactly the happiest camper at the moment, but I’ve lured him to comply by packing the car with yummy treats and promising he can listen to “his music.” Why, at times, do I feel that I’m already ready for motherhood? ;)

Anyway, I’ll be sure to re-cap the weekend activities, as I know we’ll get into lots of fun (while the Mister isn’t oooo-ing and ahhh-ing over table settings, of course!)

Last night’s blogger dinner was a blast and I had such a great time chatting with the ladies behind the blogs I love. I’ll post more about my meal and experience later today, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, enjoy the following VERY professional photos ;)

How awesome are those tights? Isn’t it incredible how mush interest they add to an otherwise boring outfit? And I love that they still remain classy and under-stated since the main color in them is black. They pique interest without overpowering — I received many compliments on these tights! And for those of you who need help in the tights department, read my post on How to Wear Tights (it’s enlightening, I tell you!)

In the mix:

Up next is a dress my mom bought me this past week. Now, before you all start calling me spoiled (which admittedly, I am), Mama got this dress for $7.

I love this dress. What I don’t love is that it’s dry clean only. Let me give you all a tip — unless your garment has a stain or smells like B.O., don’t waste your money on dry-cleaning. Better yet, don’t waste your time WASHING it. Now before you all make a mental note to stay at least two feet away next time you see me, hear me out. The less you wash and dry your clothes, the longer they last, and the better they will look and feel. Don’t believe me? Well, I have back up. (NOTE: this DOES NOT apply to work-out clothes)

In the mix:

What type of launderer are you? Do you wash things after every use or are you a stinkball like me?

OMG! You are so freakin’ pretty! And I love your outfits, I have no sense of style…whatsoever!

  2. I <3 those tights!

all i am saying is that couples bridal showers are a plague, that if left undefeated, will destroy weekends for men around the globe more rapidly than can be currently imagined.

i look forward to standing at the bar with dozens of dudes looking for something with a sports score while throngs of women are in their glory over blenders and 600-thread count bed sheets.

    pray for our humanity.

  5. A tip that I learned from The Daily Green (http://www.thedailygreen.com/) is to spray cheap vodka on your clothes after you wear them. The alcohol will kill the bacteria that causes the smells and when it dries, it leaves the clothes scent-free.

It’s sort of a replacement for Febreeze for those that get headaches from the heavey scents like I do. It works like a charm!

  6. Totally agree with you on the washing. If it’s something I sweat a lot in (like a cotton tank in the summer) then of course it gets washed. But the average dress definitely doesn’t see a washing machine very often. How dirty/smelly can you get in a few hours indoors?

  7. A) I love your flowered tights! I wish I’d gotten “into” the tights trend this year, and by the time I actually wanted to wear them, it was too warm!
    B) i’m a total stinkball. Unless I actually get something ON said article of clothing, I’ll wear them 2-3 times before washing.

LOVE both dresses! I have been eyeing a pair of tights almost identical to the ones you have on top, except with pink roses. I wasnt sure how to wear them but you have sold me as I have almost an identical dress!! I wash t-shirts/tanks every time I wear, sweaters and jeans less frequently.

  9. Oh I love both those dresses.. I actually agree with you there on the washing haha esp jeans- BUT workout clothes are def a different story. EW, that would be disgusting haha.

props to the Mister who currently holds the title of the “saner half” of The Daily Balance. I feel your pain, man, as I was forced to actually host a couples shower with my wifey. beat that nightmare and we’ll talk.

hahahaha the Mister’s comment is too funny! sounds like you’ll have your hands full, Shannon :)

    xo

  12. haha! love kyle’s comment!
love the dresses…not sure if i’d be brave enough to wear the tights but you look very cute.
    have a great weekend!

  13. LOVE the tights – they add so much visual interest!

  14. Heather said:

Haha! I’m definitely a stink ball, too!! Especially with my jeans – I love when they’re all stretched to fit my azz! :)

Have a fun (and safe) trip!

First of all you are beautiful and I LOVE your outfits!

Second I am a stinkball too. That’s how my Momma raised me haha.

So my dry cleaning secret is that I have washed dry clean only clothes in my sink with a little shampoo or woolite and hung them to dry and they turn out just fine. :) But yeah, in general if it’s dry clean only it doesn’t get washed until it gets stained or stinky.

  17. Judy said:

I love those dresses! I don’t dry clean things either unless they have a major stain. Usually washing things by hand work just as nicely…the right water temp, the right detergent, and using your hands is sometimes delicate enough. Thanks for sharing!

  18. Those tights are adorable!!! I love your dresses. A goal of mine is to start to buy more dresses, they are so cute!

I’m with you on the clothes washing. I wash mine when necessary :)

Never heard of a couples bridal shower. That sounds like it would be more fun than the standard.

Love those dresses and you are SO right about the tights. What a great addition.

I hate to admit it but yes, I have my “stink ball” days like you. I really hope know one calls me that but as long as it’s behind my back it won’t hurt me :)
If I have heated up at all during the course of the day however, the clothes go in the wash.

  20. Helen said:

I love those tights! I too don’t like washing things every time I wear them as I think that washing clothes too much ruins them. I usually wear clothes twice before washing them but have been known to wear things more than that if they don’t smell!!

  21. Haha I love the Mister’s comment…too funny!!
Love your outfits! I love the way tights look but I haven’t gotten around to figuring out how to wear them myself.

    (Gosh I say love a lot..ha)

Hi there! Thanks for visiting my blog today. ;) Love what you’ve got going on here…I can’t wait to take a better look around.

By the way? LOVE the tights. :)

    Have a nice weekend!

  23. Shelley said:

you look amazing in that outfit!!!

  24. Shannon said:

So funny! My husband jokes that he is helping me prepare for motherhood by making messes and acting childish :)

I am the same way with washing. If I workout in it, it gets washed, but if it can be worn again, then I absolutely wear it again.

I think that it is great that your fiance is willing to go to the show with you… even if it is unwillingly. I was on my own for all of that stuff.

I wash everything after one wear but I do it all in cold water and hang everything to dry.

  26. oooh those tights are GORGEOUS!!!!!

  27. Katherine said:

such cute outfits! I wish I could pull something like that off!

I love those tights! I am such a tight person. I have every bright color of the rainbow in a pair of tights and even some fun designs but i do NOT have flowers! need to get some asap. Also about to check out your post on “how to wear tights”. sweeet!

  30. Daisy said:

oh yea – I’m also a stinkball like you. I’m on board with the fact that everything does not need to be washed/dry cleaned after wearing it one time!

  31. (I’m way behind here, but…)I’m a total stinkball as well. Unles it’s got something on it or really stinks, I’ll wear it a few times before washing – especially pants.
