Daily Delish: What’s the BEST breakfast joint in your city?

Categories:

Daily Delish

I went out to breakfast with my family a few weeks ago (don’t worry it was before lent!).

You all know how high breakfast ranks on my list, and I always enjoy trying new places. So I convinced my family to go to Scrambler Marie’s, a fairly new place in town. Scrambler Marie’s has about 5 other locations, throughout Ohio.

From the restaurant’s website:

Scrambler Maries’ is a family owned restaurant concept open from 6:30am to 3:00pm every day. It was begun in 1990 by Shain and Phil Buerk of Toledo, Ohio at its original location which continues to operate today on Secor Road. Because it is a family business most of the Buerk family has been involved in the operation at some time. Even Phil’s wife and Shain’s Mom Deby Marie continues to hostess in the restaurants. The recipes for the original menu which remains relatively unchanged came from Phil’s background in the food service industry as a multiple unit Wendy’s franchisee; Shain’s experience in the breakfast business; and advice and suggestions from all of the family whose names the menu carries.

How cool is it that this place is TRULY family owned and operated? These types of places are always the best (in my experience), yet they rarely get the press and recognition. Let’s do somehting about that.

Please leave a comment telling me where you live and your favorite breakfast spot(s)! Now I’ll know where to go to breakfast when I’m traveling ;)

Cleveland’s BEST: Original Pancake House, Lucky’s, First Watch (I know it’s a chain, but it’s a small one!), Chicago Deli, The Inn on Coventry and Scrambler Marie’s

Check out that delectable egg white omlette filled with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and swiss cheese. Served with SALSA, of course!

Eat at Joe’s in South Euclid! Talk about a great, small, family-owned place! There’s always a line on weekend mornings – the food is great and cheap. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.

I cant think of any place too fantastic around here. Im from BC, and live just outside of Vancouver. Surrey if you want to get technical, but I try not to admit it.

However, there is this little diner out at Harrison Hot Springs – I dont know what its called, but its right off the lake and their breakfast is amazing. Best hashbrowns Ive ever had in my life!

New Orleans has a lot of good breakfast places (and brunch is a huge tradition in the city as well). I really love the Brunch at Dantes Kitchen and Muriel’s, and my favorite breakfast places are Panola St. Cafe, The Ruby Slipper, and Cafe Freret.

Shannon, I used to go to the original Cafe Marie in Toledo all the time! It is right by UT’s campus and was favorite brunch spot of students. Besides Uncle John’s pancake house of course!

Currently my favorite brunch though is Touch Supper Club. Good food, good music, good conversation. What’s not to love?!

  13. I’m in Chicago, and if you ever run through, you just HAVE to try:

    1. The Bongo Room
    2. Stella’s Diner
    3. Feast

Pittsburgh PA had AMAZING breakfast places!
The most famous are Pamela’s (thank you President Obama), and DeLuca’s, but my all time favorite is Coca Cafe in Lawrenceville.

In Kansas City, Kate’s Kitchen is a great local family-owned place in the Northland – excellent breakfast. We have First Watch here too, and it is another favorite of mine:-)

  16. For us it’s Mariah’s. They actually serve brunch, but they have the most amazing, crispy yet fluffy, buttery pancakes I have ever had anywhere.

In San Francisco, the BEST place to have breakfast is at HERBIVORE (vegan) and DOTTIE’S TRUE BLUE CAFE (NON-VEGAN).

Oh man – Kitchenette on the Upper West Side (near Columbia University) here in NYC is legit the best brunch in the world. It’s all-day brunch, but every single thing on the menu is to-die-for. I haven’t been in too long, not since my friends all graduated from Columbia… mmmmmmmm I should go back.

  19. Wow… That looks incredible. I love omelets but can’t seem to make them that pretty at home :)

  20. Yummm… that looks great!!! I live in Spartanburg, SC and the best place around here is called Papa’s Breakfast Nook. They have the most INCREDIBLE pancakes!

  21. That looks delicious! We really don’t go out for breakfast … at all! It’s crazy, but my husband and I both love a home cooked breakfast. :-)

Actually, I lie … we went away for our one-year wedding anniversary to a place called Canmore (in Alberta, Canada). It’s one of my favourite cities – so beautiful! We took a drive up to one of the best golf courses, Silvertip, and ate breakfast there. It was wonderful!

There’s also a really yummy place in Edmonton, Alberta called Madisons. We had our day-after-the-wedding breakfast there where we feasted on stuffed french toast and eggs benedict. The. Best. Ever.

  22. Oh my goodness, that breakfast plate looks incredible.

My favorite breakfast joint in my home town, Milwaukee is Comet Cafe. It’s got great vegetarian / vegan breakfast options, their mimosas are served in pint-glass sized servings, and their buttermilk biscuits are ridiculous! Guy Fieri went there for his special because they serve free bacon alongside Bloody Marys at the bar on weekends. Sounds like a fun place, eh?

By the way – GREAT BLOG! Thanks for visiting Backstage Pass, I am going to add you to my Google reader and can’t wait for more!

  23. the best in NYC..Le Monde, a French restaurant up town near Columbia. They make the most amazing stuffed french toast and desserts, and it’s not that well known because it’s so far uptown!

Here in Cleveland, I have to go with The West Side Market Cafe. Their Eggs Arnold are delish.

In BG, OH (where I went to college) it would have to be The Corner Grill. Old school greasy diner. Loved the atmosphere almost as much as the food.
