Daily Delish – BACON

Daily Delish

Bacon=deliciousness. And no, not KEVIN!

From chocolate covered, to milkshakes (at the B spot!), pizza and ice cream, bacon is taking (or has taken?) the world by storm.

Do not even TRY to tell me otherwise. I know that some of you are vegetarians and don’t eat bacon for ethical reasons — but don’t even try and tell me it isn’t mouth-watering delicious. Because I don’t take kindly to liars. Sure, some of you may not like the IDEA of bacon and some of you may be grossed out with the process of making bacon. But you bet your little hiney that If i told you it was the newest organic vegetable from the earth, you’d shout for joy in adoration. Am I taking this a bit too far? I tend to do that sometimes…

My point is – bason is marvelous.

What isn’t marvelous is fat and cholesterol. Luckily, there are several healthier options out there that still deliver the awesomeness of all that is “bacon,” without making us commit healthy eating crimes.

My favorite option out there (that I eat 3-4 times a week):

Whole Foods carries an ORGANIC turkey bacon, which I also enjoy, but Butterball wins due to price and convenience. Each slice is only 25 calories (so naturally I have at least 2), with only 1.5 grams of fat.

To complete one of my favorite breakfasts, I enjoy bacon alongside two REAL eggs (sunny side up or over easy) and toast (or rudi’s bagel). As yummy as eggs and toast may be, it just isn’t breakfast without my chewy strips of saltiness!

Are you a fan of bacon? Do you do the real thing? go turkey? go veg?

Bacon, like cinnamon rolls, are one of those things that smell 10000x times better than they taste. I don’t really eat meat, but I must say tempeh bacon is no bueno!

  3. Does turkey bacon count? I’m gonna have to say it doesn’t; it’s fine in and of itself, but if isn’t bacon.

Frankly, I’d eat bacon on anything. And if they find a vegetable that truly tastes like bacon… I can’t even finish that thought.

I don’t mind bacon – but I have never come across turkey bacon! How interesting :)

I actually find turkey bacon way too salty and only do the real thing. I also prefer sweet breakfasts, so bacon for me usually takes the form of a BLT!

I love all bacon…pork, tukey or veg…I definitely don’t discriminate when it comes to bacon! haha…love it all!

have you ever had a bacon and peanut butter sandwich? please just take my word for it — amazing!

  9. bacon is a staple ingredient in our house, just one slice adds so much flavor to an entire dish or pot of soup…there’s a reason its the most used tag that pops up on our blog :)

  10. I am totally with you – meat eater or not, bacon is amazing. I love turkey bacon and haven’t had it in WAY too long. I think I need to pick myself up some of that! Thanks for reminding me!

  11. Thanks so much for your kind words on my blog – and so happy you commented so that I could discover yours! Love it!

But back to the BACON! I recently “discovered” turkey bacon as well – love it! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised :) Granted, I still enjoy a slice or two of pork bacon every so often – I don’t know WHO can smell pork bacon cooking and decline an offer to have a piece :P

  12. Mmmm…totally agree! (See, we’re not so opposite!) ;) I’m so intrigued by the bacon milkshake…I wish I lived closer to OH so I could try it.

I’ll eat turkey bacon from time to time, but I’d rather have just one slice of the real thing. And cooking with it is no contest!

In the good old days, when I used to eat meat, I loved turkey bacon. I wasn’t a fan of the smell but the crispiness just spoke to me! Veggie bacon just doesn’t appeal to me at all for some reason.

Thank you for your sweet comment today! I’m so happy to make you laugh.

    Have a great night!

Hey! Thanks for commenting on my blog.

Don’t know if you noticed but it’s a little funny how much we have in common. Besides the obvious things like food and nutrition I’m also from the mid-west (Indiana) but moved out to CA to pursue acting. My acting plans got derailed when I met my soulmate and got married. Now we work on our own films (you can see the trailer for my short at http://www.sunnylife.com if you feel so inclined…I’m not as chubby now). I’m also working on my black belt. Oh and I’m into God as well. Crazy huh?

Congratulations on being able to become a professional actress that’s not small feat.

I really don’t each much bacon. I try to avoid pork and nitrates as much as possible but yes…you’re right…a few times a year it’s gooood. :-) There is a restaurant in Santa Barbara that serves curried bacon dressing over seared ahi and wilted spinach. Sounds weird but it’s insane!

    Ooops that’s http://www.sunnylifemovie.com

Not concerned about visit just thought being an actress you might like it. :-)

  17. I am totally a fan of turkey bacon, but I don’t eat it as often as I should. Must get some now! Thanks for the motivation.

P.S. I gave you an award on my blog! :D

  18. I love bacon – it’s so delicious! I’ve definitely been won over by turkey bacon, though! I should pick some up. I used to buy it and freeze small portions in baggies, which was best since 2 people do NOT need a whole package of bacon!

I like getting turkey sausage, too … it’s great with breakfast!
