Introducing Yoga Week (giveaway alert!)

Good morning, everyone!

Are you ready for the long-awaited surprise?! I said, ARE YOU READY FOR THE SURPRISE! (Go ahead, fist-pump into the air and clap your hands ;) )

Remember my fitness resolutions goals?

Well, as you all know, I don’t do anything half-assed. If I’m going to learn something or make a commitment, I go all out. So in an effort to become a little yogi, I bring to you…YOGA WEEK.

In an effort to familiarize myself with the practice, I’m going to be doing a lot of reading, introductory videos, classes, etc. For those of you who have been thinking about starting yoga, NOW IS THE TIME! Let’s conquer this sucker together ;)

But we’ll need gear, won’t we? We’ll need the right tools, too, right?!

Lucky for you, I’ve got ya covered. Each day this week, I will be featuring a yoga-themed giveaway and providing introductory information for those of you who want to get started with me (and for those of you who already practice). I have some AMAZING giveaways lined up — total retail cost of all prizes is roughly $180!

Be sure to check in every day to see what we’re up to and score some great yoga gear.

Now, in order to do anything, you’ll need a yoga mat. And don’t get one of those cheap-y mats that will fall apart — we’re in this for the long run, people!

Let’s do this the right way and get The Flower of Life Mat from Gaiam

Gaiam Flower of Life Mat

Flower of Life Yoga Mat features:

The folks at Gaiam are graciously giving away one yoga mat to one lucky reader. To enter, simply leave a comment telling me why you want to start yoga – or if you already practice, tell me what you love most about it! And as always, there are multiple ways to score an entry.

TO WIN EXTRA ENTRIES YOU MAY:

Just leave me a comment letting me know that you did each of the above and you can get up to 4 more entries!! If you already follow on google reader and have me on your Blogroll, just let me know – you’ll still get an extra entry

GOOD LUCK!

  1. Fabulous idea Shannon. You will LOVE becoming a yogi!

I love how yoga makes you feel during and afterwards. During the class you feel challenged and focused. Sometimes the poses are do difficult that all you can focus on is your breath. Adn afterwards you have an amazing sensation of relaxation (and soreness!).

You are on my blogroll and I am subscribed :)

  2. Oh, I’ve been looking online at their mats. I need a new one for class. I love taking Yoga b/c it relieves stress and I love how the teacher says ”leave everthing at the door”.

  25. I would really love love love to win this giveaway! I just took up yoga more seriously about a month ago and haven’t bought my own mat yet. I love how it makes me feel mentally and physically. It loosens all my muscles and the tension in my body.

  26. for an extra entry, you are already on my google reader!

  27. Hi Shannon!

I’m so excited for your give-away week and for educating all of us about yoga. I haven’t been practicing very long, but I love how yoga makes me feel so LONG when I am done. I definitely feel like my posture improves with the practice. Also, the controlled breathing helps me to relax while doing something active. Anytime I’ve tried simple meditation I’ve just fallen asleep! haha.

I already have you on my blogroll. I’ll try to incorporate a post about your give-aways sometime this week, too.

    Best of luck to you!
    -Michelle

What a beautiful yoga mat! I haven’t tried yoga yet but I’ve heard a lot about it – It’s become very popular! I’d love to give it a try. Although I eat really well, I don’t do exercises, and also, my mind is always stressed and all over the place, so maybe doing yoga could easy my mind and strengthen my body.

I’m so happy I found your site! I started yoga about 2 months ago and it has coompletely changed the way I think about working out! I have a running background and didn’t think that yoga would do much for me – I can’t believe how much stronger and more flexible I have become in this short amount of time. I also have found such a sense of peace and joy from this practice!

I love yoga (esp. ashtanga & bikram). I used to be a former gym rat, but got tired of the elliptical after several years. Yoga helps me maintain my happy weight (112 lbs) without dieting or additional exercise, with the added benefit of being a great stress reliever!

  32. Claudia said:

I love yoga for so many reasons. It helps me get through difficult situations by letting me get clear on things. It has led to me love my body. It teaches me new things every day. It helps me sleep well at night. It helps wake me up in the morning. Oh, I could go on and on!!! :)

Yoga is my weekly release. It is one hour that I get to practice and mediate form myself without interruption.

I just started practicing YogaMuscle at my University. It’s a yoga that combines a lot more body-weight strength training. It’s basically yoga for athletes, not for relaxation or meditation. I LOVE it! And I’m in a Pilates class, having my own mat would be great (and it would reduce the risk of getting MRSA!)

I love how I instantly feel less tense in my muscles even after only a 20min yoga download class. Yoga helps my body + brain!!

  40. Jami said:

I just started yoga about two months ago. The best thing about it is that when I’m there, that’s all I think about. If I even try and think about anything that stresses me out, I lose my balance. I’ve learned that I have to block that stuff out and I relax so much more. I had a particularly stressful day yesterday and the only thing I wished for was that my yoga class would be that night.

I love yoga! I can’t imagine what I did before it. If you do it regularly, it can completely transform your life-not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. Since starting yoga, I’ve noticed that I am significantly calmer, kinder, and happier. I keep telling all of my friends that they should give it a try :D
