Thankful Thursday – For Haiti…

Thankful

Good morning, everyone! Happy Thankful Thursday ;)

I know we’ve all been bogged down with the news surrounding Haiti and perhaps some of us are sick of it by now — but there is a reason so many people are talking about it.

It happened.

It’s real.

It’s not going away.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our everyday lives and push everything else that’s going on in the world aside. Yet when we, as individuals need help, we expect everyone to lend a hand. See where I’m going with this?

I understand that there comes a time when you can only handle so much and you have to consider your own needs, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world stops. That doesn’t mean that suddenly all the people trapped under buildings in Haiti are freed or that all the wounded civilians are healed. Whether you like it or not, life keeps happening. We can’t control it.

What we can control is how we react. We can do something — or not. We can be part of the solution — or not. Now, when I say something I’m not necessarily referring to money. Times are tough and not everyone can give what they’d like. But that doesn’t mean you can’t pray. That doesn’t mean you can’t encourage others to give what they can and spread the word. Support organizations that are donating to the cause and buy goods whose proceeds support the need.

This week, I’m thankful to be part of the solution. This week, I’m thankful to be a giver. This week, I’m thankful that I don’t allow myself to forget.

To do your part you can…

Donate to the Red Cross

Participate or bid in The Chic Life’s Bake Sale for Haiti

Snowflakes are one of nature’s most fragile things, but just look at what they can do when they stick together.

What are you thankful for this week? Like I said, we can be part of the solution or not — which one will you be?

I’m thankful that I live in a place that doesn’t experience catastrophic weather. Sure I may complain about the cold/ice/snow but MI doesn’t have earthquakes or hurricanes.

  10. Such an important message – just because we’re seeing so much coverage on Haiti and some people tend to become immune to it all – we must remember that people are still suffering and we have the power to help. I’m so thankful that I’m healthy and safe and my family is as well.

  11. Such a good post and SO so very true! Especially the part about how we can still do something, even if we can’t afford to give money. I am thankful that I live in a country where we don’t usually have to worry about things like that and if something DID happen, we know that we would be taken care of.
