Try it – Mad Men

Try It

If you follow me on twitter, you know that the Mister and I watched EPISODE ONE of Man Men yesterday (armed with my new favorite snack, of course!). Before I get into my thoughts, let me start by saying that the addiction has started. Yes, even though I had to get my stitches out at 9am this morning, we were up past midnight to “just watch one more” (our famous last words).

P.S. YES, I HAVE MY STITCHES OUT!!! I am so much more comfortable and finally feel as if this annoyance is behind me!

Anyway, back to Mad Men — as someone who works in the advertising industry, I’m sure I find certain aspects much more interesting than the average viewer. It is so eye-opening to see how the industry began and how much (and how little!) has changed.

That aside, I want to point out what an amazing job the Art Director does on this show. From the first frame, you truly feel as if you’ve been plucked into the 1960′s – everything is so authentic! I recently read that even beneath the costumes, the actors are wearing authentic undergarments- just to keep things 100% accurate.

The Mister and I both couldn’t believe the role that SMOKING had in everyone’s lives – boy am I glad we’ve all smartened up on that one! I’m also glad that (most) men have smartened up and no longer treat women like inferiors. It was hard not to get offended watching the show — there were times that I was literally rolling my eyes and snorting at the television — these men, acting as if women were so BELOW them, so sub-serviant — it was disgusting. I will tip my hat off to the actors, though. For without them, I wouldn’t be getting so mad — they are truly phenomenal and incredibly convincing.

Now we’re only about 4 episodes in, but I can’t wait to see what happens — let’s just hope I can keep my cool! At least I have the costumes to distract my annoyance towards all the Mad Men — I LOVE period clothing – some of Joan’s outfits are spectacular! (perhaps she’ll inspire a Fashion Friday?! ;) )

Does anyone else watch Mad Men? What do you think?! Who is your favorite character? Who is your least favorite?

Daily Delish – Honey! Pass the mustard ;)

My current obsession:

Soft Pretzel and Honey Mustard

Soft Pretzel and Honey Mustard

soft pretzel

I used to LOVE making hot pretzels at home and I totally forgot about them until I spotted them at the grocery store. I also happened to find an amazing honey mustard dip — it’s really hit or miss with honey mustard, isn’t it?

Seems as if you get one where the mustard is way too overpowering, or the honey is just TOO much — this particular blend was perfection!

The Mister enjoyed his pretzie (yes, that’s what I call them – L.A.M.E.) dipped in spicy queso – way too HOT for this sensitive palette!

No, it ay not have been THE MOST healthy snack, but hey, anything beats stuffing your face with leftover Christmas cookies ;)

What’s your favorite pretzel dipper? Or do you go ‘plain jane?’

I was a BAD blogger and did not take photos of the amazing tilapia, scallops or perogies! I’m sorry! At this point, I’d like to give HUGE props to my MOM, who managed to pull off an AMAZING dinner with only one of her legs functioning (due to foot surgery — love you, Mama ;) )

The Mister and I then headed over to his aunt’s house where more goods times were had and way too many cookies were comsumed.

The next morning, we heded back to my parents for brunch and presents.

my aunt made the best pancakes!

We also enjoyed an incredible turkey sausage frittata, yogurt and granola and fresh cinnamon bread my aunt picked up from Amish Country.

I’ll admit it, I got some AMAZING presents. I’m incredibly lucky to have a family that is able to spoil me. But I’m not sharing any of the gifts I received. Why? Because it’s not what Christmas is about. And when I think back on Christmas, I’m not going to remember what pair of boots or purse I was given — I’m going to remember spending it with my amazing family, waking up next to my Mister knowing I already have everything I need, laughing till my stomach hurt and debating about which one of my grandma’s cookies are the best.

I hope all of you made some incredible memories ;)

Which memory was your favorite this year? How will YOU remember Christmas?
