Make it – Bring in the New Year deliciously

New Year’s Eve is usually an over-rated disaster. Who’s with me? Plans rarely live up to the hype, there’s always that one friend of yours who is crying YET AGAIN, it’s crowded and your constantly having to guess whether Susie and Bobby are on or off again. Why not do like me and The Mister and celebrate in the comfort of your own home?

For the past few years, we’ve finally wised up and make a nice, gourmet-like meal, invite some friends over, bust out some board games (favorite include: Apples to Apples, Yahtzee, The Last Word, Scattegories and The Nightmare Before Christmas party game) and bring in the new year together.

But see, this plan doesn’t work out too well if your food sucks.

Here are some of my ‘fool proof’ suggestions:

Main courses:

One-pot Pesto Chicken

Parmesan Salmon

Pasta with The World’s Best Pasta Sauce

Mahi Mahi with Harissa

Seared Ahi Tuna with Pepper Crust

Sides:

Portobello Mushrooms

Quinoa Salad with Steamed Vegetables

Dessert:

Honey Yogurt Cheesecake Bars

The Perfect Chocolate Cake (it’s healthy, too!)

Guiltless Chocolate Cupcakes

Oreo Bombs

  1. This is exactly what we are doing this year! We are having just a couple friends over (only as many that can crash at our house if they consume too much) and playing games. I’m really looking forward to a fun night that is laid back. I think NYE is highly overrated. :) The parmesan salmon sounds fantatsic! :)

  2. We definitly do a low key new years As well. I always dress up though. Great menu ideas they sound delicious

    What a great menu!

We keep a pretty low key New Year’s Eve. We use to do more, but now that we have a baby…. it’s all about low key:)

I hope to stay home this year! I completely agree with you. I feel like New Years is a completely overhyped holiday kinda like prom night. Too much drama!

  5. I’m usually lowkey, but this year I’m going to a concert. Rockin’ in the New Year!

I agree! Last year I hosted a big party, which was sort of fun (except for the part where I told my best friend that I don’t like his girlfriend at all. Whoops. Needless to say she hasn’t been too friendly with me ever since… heh). But this year the boyfriend and I are going to just stay in, I think, and drink some wine. I like spending alone time with him :)

I love your simple and chic New Years celebration. My friends always insist on hitting up a RAGER.. not my idea of a good time. I swear, I’m an 80 year old lady.

  8. Lauren says:

Ugh, I really hate New Year’s eve around here. I normally find myself in a field, in front of bonfire, alone.

  9. Jenny says:

Couldn’t agree more! The past few years, I’ve made the mistake of forcing myself to go to some crazy, overdone party with some friends, and I never end up saying it was “that” great of a time.

This year, I’m going wayyyy low key, but I’m still trying to think of something that would be nice to do. Cooking these dishes sounds like a good plan! ;)
