We’re going to change things up a bit today. Why? Cuz I say so
You’ll notice that it is a TUESDAY here at The Daily Balance. Well, not really, but Tuesday is ‘Try it’ Tuesday and I want to share my ‘Try it’ NOW, because I am just that impatient know you are all interested in how the race went!
So tomorrow we’ll switch back to ‘Make it’ Monday and Wednesday we will return to regularly scheduled programming. Sound good?
Very well then.
The race was so inspirational! I was so impressed with the amount of people who came out to show their support for this great cause (announcer said about 18,000!).
My mom and I headed to the site early to get her registered. It was drizzling a bit on the way over and I was worried it’d be raining for the race. But when we got there, check out the beautiful sight that welcomed us…

Do you see the rainbow?
Mother Nature must have been smiling down at all of the ‘do good-ers’
Before the race started we were serenaded by a gospel choir, which got everyone movin’ and shakin’- they were great!

My mom and I had a bit of time to kill before the race and survivor ceremony started, so we walked around a bit to collect swag (of course!)

I'm ready!

Check out those dork shoes!
Before the race started, a ceremony was held for all breast cancer survivors. Survivors lined up according to how many years they’ve been without breast cancer. I’m sure it was quite an inspiration for those in their first year to look down the line and see the women who have been ’survivors’ for more than 25 years! All survivors paraded to the front of the plaza, while singing a song written especially for them. I must admit my mom and I both got a bit choked up! These woman were such an inspiration. I am so happy that I was able to be a part of it.

After we wiped our eyes and shared some hugs, we set out to the starting line.

My mom and I were WALKING in this race, so we tried to hang back at the start to let all the runners pass us up – we didn’t want to get trampled!
We held a steady pace and finished in about 45 minutes — about 15 minutes a mile – not bad for two walkers!
This was my first race that was designed to create support in regards to a specific cause and I am SO happy that I went. I can’t think of another time where I was more inspired or touched by such a significant group of people. I couldn’t help but smile knowing that all of you were right there with me with all the support you’ve shown!
Thank you so much for taking part in this with me and I hope that this is the first of many other race recaps to come. Maybe next time I’ll step it up and run! (don’t hold your breath though
) Ohioans out there — know of any races coming up that you’d like to conquer together? Let me know and maybe we can get a group together
Have you participated in a race to help support a cause? How did it make you feel? What was your experience like?

Good for you! I’ve always wanted to do a race for the cure but they always seem to schedule them on days when i’ve got something lined up already. still, i ran my last 5k in 26:00 so i’m not pushing 5k’s right now anyway. one of my wife’s cousins is a breast cancer survivor so we’re connected to the cause.
Congratulations to you both and to all who participated. What a fab cause. And a good time too! Well done.
