World Famous Scone from the Drake Hotel

World Famous Scone from the Drake Hotel

Did you read that caption? WORLD FAMOUS, people!

The Mister and I stayed at the incredibly trendy and fabulous Drake Hotel this past weekend (will share more of that later). We had breakfast in their cafe one morning and it took all the resistance and self control I could muster not to order their Blueberry Scone platter. See, I knew that the Mister and I would be enjoying his birthday dinner, along with some celebratory dessert, so I was trying to keep it light.

Mission accomplished. I stuck to scrambled eggs and mushrooms with mixed greens (which was DELISH, but more on that later!).

People, I’m telling you — fate would not allow me to leave Toronto without trying these scones!

The very next day, upon returning to the hotel from our morning workout, there they sat.

Laid out, perfectly and artistically arranged in the hotel lobby… FREE scones.

Now, you all know I’m not one to pass up free goodies, especially when they include BAKED GOODS.

This was my sign — I was meant to have these scones.

No words.

These babies were incredible! Crunchy and perfectly sugar-coated on the outside and moist but sill crumbly on the inside with BURSTS of fresh blueberry mini-explosions.

Perfection.

I said I would only have a bite, but I definitely enjoyed the whole thing with a tall glass of (complimentary) skim milk.

It took EVERYTHING inside of me not to grab the entire tray and sprint away to a closet to hide and hold my own VIP party –Guest list: scone.

I managed to limit myself to one. I talked to the concierge about these scones for a good 5 minutes. I went on and on and on about how they were the best I’ve ever had. He again told me they were in fact world famous and that Orlando Bloom also enjoys them. Did you hear that? I have something in common with Orlando Bloom. Read again: Orlando Bloom and I? BFF.

People, if you are ever in the Toronto-area, get brunch or breakfast at the Drake Hotel. And order the scone platter — trust me, it’s worth it.

Note: Just to keep things totally legit, Orlando Bloom and I are not actually friends. But he would totally want to be if we ever met.

Where have you had the best hotel meal or treat? What was it and where was it from?

My folks LOVE dining/staying at the Drake Hotel when in Chicago!

Okay that is the BIGGEST unconscious typing slip-up ever. Apparently Chicago is on my mind, haha! I meant Canada, obviously. Sheesh! :-D

    oooh my, that looks yummy.

Hands down, the best treat we had was when we stayed at a B&B in Ireland. We checked in and they told us to come down for tea when we got settled. When we got there, they had this spread of food that blew me away! At least 3 kinds of scones, 2 kinds of bread, fruit, jam, butter, other baked goods and tea .. for 3 people! And that was just the tip of the iceberg. Complimentary breakfast – TO DIE FOR! They had a menu. A menu! I’d never had a complimentary breakfast that allowed you to order something that was then COOKED FOR YOU! PLUS, they had like 8 kinds of juice, a huge tray of fruit, granola, yogurt, coffee, tea, baked goods – you even got your own basket of scones for the table … I could go on and on. Literally the BEST place I’ve ever stayed in terms of customer service. I’d go back JUST to stay there. *sigh*

I must say, although I am lucky enough to indulge in these quite often, it is NEVER enough. Some of the best pastries I have had anywhere!
