Try it – Nutritional Yeast

When I first started reading blogs about a year ago, I kept seeing references of nutritional yeast. Intrigued, I kept my eye out for it.
When I say I “kept my eye out for it,” I really mean that I made the Mister accompany me on a wild goose chase. I was determined to get the stuff. That cheddar popcorn everyone was raving about? It would soon be MINE!
After running around town and making the Mister pay $16 for what he referred to as bottled, overpriced fungi, I finally had it.
Naturally, I whipped up a batch of cheddar corn. Using nutritional yeast, parmesan cheese and some salt, I was sure I had created a healthy, cheesy explosion of flavor. I snuggled up next to the Mister and we both took a handful. I didn’t spit it out right away (although I wanted to). If I was alone, I would have, but I felt the need to pretend to like it because I dragged the Mister all over town (while throwing a mini tantrum) in order to find it.
Let’s just say I lasted about 30 more seconds before throwing in the towel and turning to Mr. Orville Redenbacher.
Not. a. fan.
Maybe it was because I couldn’t get over the fact that I was eating powdered YEAST – or maybe it really just tasted that bizarre — I don’t know.
But, I do have an entire bottle of it and am willing to give it another try if someone had a recipe they SWORE BY.
