So ever since our BEST ZA experience EVER, the Mister and I have been on a little mission — let’s face it, the Flatouts, while VERY GOOD, just aren’t cutting it for us right now. No, sirree. What we crave is a chewy, doughy crust that often comes with too many calories to have more than one or pieces– and who can have ONE PIECE? Not I.
Enter: Mission crust
After some time spent on the grocery store shelves we finally found it – Whole Foods (no surprise!) 365 Organic Pizza Crust
I actually purchased the ‘Original’ version, as they were out of the whole wheat and surprisingly, this actually reduced the calories and fat a bit. I would have still preferred the whole wheat, but c’est la vie – we needed pizza!
I topped the crust with 3/4 cup pizza sauce and 1 1/4 cups 2% Kraft Italian blend cheese. After seasoning with Italian herbs and spices I popped the pie into the oven for 10 minutes.

My portion - 1/2 the pizza

Beautiful, cheesy goodness

Close up on cheesy goodness
The Mister and I each enjoyed 1/2 of this 14″ pizza.
The damage (1/2 pizza):
- Calories: 535
- Fat: 17.2 g
- Saturated fat: 6.2 g
- Carbs: 62 g
- Fiber: 6 g
- Protein: 32 g
You could easily use fat free cheese to dramatically cut back on the fat, but trust me, using good, quality cheese is worth it – you can really taste the difference. And using 2% is still way better than full-fat (which by the way, is also delicious and worth it if you are looking to splurge a bit

)!
The verdict – So how did this crust hold up?
Fantastic! It was doughy and chewy, just like we were hoping for, but it still held up all the cheese and sauce. The edges browned a bit, providing a wonderful crunch. All in all, the Mister and I couldn’t be happier that TWO crusts came in the package. We’ll definitely have a repeat meal this week – I’m not complaining… variety is so overrated
Do any of you have a pizza crust recipe that falls within the same calorie-range (about 500 for half the pizza)? If so, please share! I’d love to tackle a homemade version! What is your favorite packaged pizza crust?

I have a homemade dough that I make, it’s actually really good. I don’t know the calories off hand, but I know that the whole large crust (and one recipe makes a really large pie) is 20 ww points. I usually divide it into 4 smaller dough balls and freeze them, this makes 5 points per 2 serving pizza. The recipe is on my blog right here: http://unlikelysuccessstory.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-love-pizza-did-i-tell-you-guys-i-love.html
Yum!! My fav food of all time!
We actually go to the bakery section at Whole Foods and ask for their premade dough… they usually have whole wheat and original… we LOVE it. Very chewy, doughy… the best!
Yeah, fat free cheese is okay – it won’t melt like the 2%, though! Plus, a little fat is never a bad thing
that pizza looks delicious. i could eat pizza every single day so i totally agree with you that variety is overrated. i usually buy my pizza dough from whole foods as well but i get it from the pizza counter where they sell slices of pizza. it’s $2(ish) for a whole wheat pizza crust and it’s absolutely fantastic. i’m not sure of the calorie count but i usually trust whole foods for their quality products so i’m fine with not knowing.
Sounds yummy. I like pizza with thin crust, and I agree with the cheese. Sometimes the full fat stuff is just totally worth it.
you rocked that ‘za girl
jenna’s pizza dough from eatliverun.com is AWESOME. im not sure what the calorie count is but i cant imagine thats its very high
Oh my goodness, I am seriously craving pizza now! Do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? They sell pizza dough in the refridgerated section…there’s usually a whole wheat dough or a garlic parmesan dough to choose from, and they are fantastic!
I love TJ’s Pizza Dough, too! Try it out…it is great with Laughing Cow on it!

The TJ dough is fantastic. As an alternatives to wraps I love making it on english muffins or pita – yum!!!
