Try It – Muscle Milk Light

Try It

So in an ideal world, we all eat clean and we all get our protein from natural sources such as cheese, nuts, meat and dairy, right? Well, sometimes that just doesn’t work. Sometimes, you’ve gotta take some shortcuts. They way I see it, if you apply the 90/10 rule (90% good girl, 10% bad), anything is OK. And if you are going to take a short cut, please make sure it’s a delicious one.

Introducing: Muscle Milk Light

Well, I can safely say that all of this is true! And it tastes GREAT! I favor the chocolate flavor over the vanilla, but then again, who wouldn’t? ;) The Mister is a HUGE fan of these as well. In fact, this past weekend he took the plunge and purchased the Muscle Milk Light protein powder. I’ll let you know how that compares.

The only complaint I have with the bottled Muscle Milk Light is the price. These were ON SALE at my local supermarket at $6 for two bottles, which is a bit pricey. But for days that you are on the go and don’t have time to prepare a smoothie or protein-packed meal, these are a perfect choice.

Now, I haven’t tried this for myself, but I heard that mixing the powder with cottage cheese and a few ice cubes tastes like ice cream. Hmmm… I think I’ll be serving myself up a sundae ASAP! ;)

Do you rely on protein shakes and powders? Which ones are your favorite?

  1. I like Muscle Milk Light too. I am pretty new to protein powders- I’ve been eating protein bars for a while though and think I like them better. The Jay Robb powder is good though- I like it best in oatmeal or the rice pudding I made at the weekend :)

I haven’t tried Muscle Milk, but a lot of friends love it.
And I agree… the 90/10 Rule makes absolute sense!

I love using protein powders, but tend towards EAS Soy Protein or Muscle Milk, most others upset my stomach. I love the 90/10 rule, and think that it applies to so much.

    I’m not big on shakes/powders.

“if you are going to take a short cut, please make sure it’s a delicious one.”: I couldn’t agree more!

I recently tried the light version of Muscle Milk for something quick to refuel after my workout, but because of it’s high fiber content of resistant starches I don’t think I will be getting it again! lol my tummy did not agree with that at all. I find that I can’t do the ‘light’ versions of most things because they either have resistant starches or sugar alcohols that don’t sit so well for me especially after working out. Ahh well, I guess they are too expensive anyways and I’d rather go the natural route if I can :)

Im not too sure i’d be able to spend 6 bucks on that…

I’d prefer the regular Chocolate milk. It has actually gone through a bunch of studies – and has been proven to be an awesome post-workout beverage.

On days I forget my protein powder or run out I like to hit up a carton of chocolate milk.

    1. high in protein
    2. has some fat (fills you up!)
    3. awesome carb and protein ratio
    4. Taste really good! :)
    5. easy and cheap

What are the ingredients? I’m interested to know if there’s a bunch of stuff in there that I can’t pronounce, especially since it’s a light version. In low fat products lots of companies use fillers to enhance the flavor.

    • Chloe – DEFINITELY not the best ingredient list, which is why I mentioned this was a shortcut and one I use sparingly… here’s the list though! caseinate, Milk Protein Isolate, Cocoa Powder, Water, Sucralose, Salt, Acesulfame Potassium, sodium hexametaphosphate, Carrageenan, Monosodium Phosphate, Microcrystaliline Cellulose, Soy Lecithin, Potassium Chloride, MCT’s, Whey Protein Concentrate, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Maltodextrin, Crystalline Fructose, Blend of Vegetable Oils, Vitamin and Mineral Blend (Vitamin A Palmitate, Cholecalciferol, d-alpha tocopherol, Biotin, Niacinamide, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Cyanocobalamin, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Ascorbic Acid, Tricalcium Phosphate, Chromium Chloride, Copper Gluconate, Potassium Iodide, Ferric Pyrophosphate, Magnesium Phosphate, Zinc Oxide).

Thanks for the review! I’ve been rocking the Spiru-tein lately. A word to the wise, the Muscle Milk Light bars are basically candy. I wasn’t a big fan of those!
