Make it – Tuna Burgers

Make It

So last week I shared a photo of a delicious tuna burger I whipped up and as a result, I received several emails and comments requesting the recipe. Ask, and you shall receive! These burgers are a GREAT red-meat alternative and have significantly less calories and fat than the traditional burger. This is a great recipe to prepare when you’re hosting a BBQ or backyard get-together.

You’ll need (Serves 6):

Finely chop the tuna with a chef’s knife. Place tuna in a bowl and mix in lemon, onion, red and green peppers, and egg whites until well combined. Season with salt and pepper. Shape tuna mixture into 6 round patties. Brush both sides of tuna burgers with extra virgin olive oil and season again with salt and pepper. Cook the tuna burgers in a non stick skillet (or on top of your grill) over medium heat for 5 minutes each side until they are cooked through.

Enjoy on your favorite whole wheat hamburger bun and top with some gourmet cheese – trust me it’s worth it to use the good stuff ;)  (I’ve found that cheddar is the best flavor combo!) for a healthy and delicious meal. Serve alongside some roasted vegetables, fresh fruit or seasoned corn on the cob – yum!
