Daily Delish – Sushi in the City

Daily Delish

So by now you should all know about me and the Mister’s obsession with Sushi. We have at least once a week, sometimes more than that and have developed our own set of favorite rolls and flavor pairings.

When we started planning our NYC trip, we just knew we’d have to go to one of the city’s top rated sushi joints. Naturally, NOBU came to mind. I mean, heck, if it’s good enough for Jennifer Aniston and Beyonce, I’m sure we can handle it ;)

We made reservations at NOBU 57, the only uptown location, a few weeks in advance. Two of our friends joined us, which we were quite excited about, because then we could order and taste more rolls!

Check out the adorable place settings — very chic chopsticks stand ;)

I tried to take non-obvious photos of the restaurant’s interior – it was GORGEOUS! But not exactly the place to whip out my camera and act like a tourist. I’d tried to take as many as I could.

Nobu’s Web site explains, “Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room.”

While the decor was quite swanky, I was most looking forward to the FOOD! Afterall, what good is decor if the food sucks?

Our table pretty much ordered every roll on the NOBU menu.

SUSHI!

SUSHI!

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the best sushi I ever had. It puts our favorite spots to shame! The quality of the fish is just so incredible. It melts in your mouth. SO good. If you are a sushi fan, you much go to NOBU to experience this quality of fish.

We were surprised to find that the prices (for sushi, anyway) were quite reasonable and very similar to what we’d pay at home!

This was our one nice dinner out in the city, and it was totally worth it.

Have you ever been to NOBU? What about any other ‘famous’ restaurants?

I’d love to do some fine dining myself. Once I’m out of school and a real grown up this will hopefully become a reality! Nobu is definitely a place where I would want to go, and I’m so glad you were able to hit it up while you were in the city!

I’ve been to the Nobu downtown. Actually that location is SO tough to get reservations at. I made it months in advance and then was given a secret number to call to confirm a day before. It was crazy. I even found out the day of the confirmation that my parents were coming to the City and wanted to come with my boyfriend (now husband). I was so stressed out that we’d lose the reservations all together but they were really nice and accomodated us. Little did I know about what was coming… my boyfriend proposed to me that night and we celebrated with my parent at Nobu the next night. Best night ever!!!! Noby will be my number 1 restaurant forever. I’m pretty sure :)
