Daily Delish – Fancy eats

Daily Delish

Greetings!

I wanted to share an experience the Mister and I had with a few friends when we were in NYC. Our good friend we were staying with has access (through his old company he worked for) to The Founders Room at the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art. This area is normally reserved those people who have donated artwork or LOTS of money to the museum — Princess Di was among them! Anyway, one of the perks of admission to this exclusive area is the opportunity to have Afternoon Tea. When our friend offered this information up to me and the Mister we JUMPED at the chance. Sure, it was more than $20 a person, but how often do you get the opportunity to brush shoulders with royalty?

When we arrived at the Met we walked around for a bit, but I don’t remember much because I was hungry and distracted with my daydreams of what kinds of goodies I’d be enjoying at the Tea. Plus, I was thinking of how I’d introduce myself to the Queen — I wanted to make a good impression. Should I curtsy? Shake her hand? Bow, maybe? The pressure!

When our reservation time rolled around, we were escorted to the Founders area and I immediately felt super important. The room was filled with antique furniture and plush chairs that must have been plucked from of a parlor in a mansion or castle (not that I’ve ever been in one before, but you know I have an active imagination).

But I didn’t spot the Queen. (Shocking, I know!) Or ANYONE for that matter. We had the whole room to ourselves. (I was a bit grateful, actually – now I wouldn’t have to worry about slurping my tea or tripping  in front of Her Majesty (or is it Highness?))

I was excited to see that they had green tea on the menu. I asked for a recommendation and ended up ordering the Dragon Pearl Jasmine (as did two other at our table – popular choice!)

My favorite sandwich was the croque moniseur (i won’t pretend that the fancy connotation of the name  didn’t have anything to do with this favoritism). A huge fan of cream cheese, I also enjoyed the salmon and cucumber sandwiches. I’ve never liked of any type of ‘salad,’ be it egg, tuna or chicken, so I let the Mister have my egg salad sammie. It worked out, though, because he hates cream cheese so I got his cucumber AND salmon. SCORE!

My favorite dessert was the scone, which was placed on the top tier. Everything was delicious, but this was my favorite. Perfectly crumbly and crispy on the outside, while remaining fluffy and buttery in the middle.

I told the Mister now that we’ve mastered our fancifulness that we might want to consider letting the Queen know. I mean, we’re cool people, maybe she’ll want to invite us to England to hang out. I better start working on my curtsy…

I love going to tea! If you come to Boston you have to have holiday tea at the Boston Harbor Hotel. Comes with a glass of bubbly in addition to all of the other goodies. :)

  9. ooh miss fancy pants! So cute. I think y’all are more than ready to go chill with the Queen. ;)

Sounds lovely… and very fancy :) I tried to go to one of these tea parties when we were in Kawloon but they wouldn’t let me in because I was wearing open toed shoes. I actually tried to buy new shoes so we could go, but I didn’t like anything. Oh well. Maybe I should plan one of these things here in Boston… or next time we’re in NY! :D
