Try It

A few weeks ago, I received a sampling of product offerings from Honest Foods. Right away, I knew these would be phenomenal. The Mister always tells me I’m a marketer’s dream (I’m one of the losers who is persuaded by infomercials — I wish I was kidding!), but I’m a sucker for pretty packaging – I guess I haven’t learned that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover!

No worries though, this ‘cover’ didn’t disappoint! As soon as I opened the box, I knew I was in for a treat. The packaging is fun and simple and ‘honest’ly made me believe that the contents inside were delicious! I guess you can say that Honest Foods had me at ‘hello’ ;)

As expressed on the company’s Web site, “from the moment you open the package to your very last bite, you can see, taste and smell that Honest Foods are different. Full of rich flavors and amazing aromas, with lots of whole nuts, fruit and other goodies that you can actually see, Honest Foods are a feast for the senses. Not only does food taste better when you use whole ingredients, it keeps you feeling full longer. We source organic ingredients whenever possible, and most importantly, we leave them whole-we don’t macerate, extrude or otherwise mush them to a pulp.”

Here’s on of my favorite tid-bit: Honest foods are made in small batches and baked in real baking trays. They’re minimally processed-which is why you’ll sometimes notice that you’ll get a big chunk of nuts on one side of your plank and a big chunk of oats on the other. We don’t use spray on vitamins, or soy protein powders, we just let the ingredients be themselves. – How awesome is that?! One more point for Honest Foods!

OK, Honest Foods, so you look pretty and I like your overall philosophy, but talk is cheap and a pretty face only gets you so far. How will you stand up to my taste buds?

First, I decided to put the planks to the test. Taking the lead from Kath – who always makes everything look so scrumptious (seriously, this girl could put rabbit turds on her oatmeal and I’d want bite) — I decided to top my signature pumpkin oatmeal with 1/4 of the maple almond crunch plank.

How was it you ask? Chewy, flavorful, wholesome, crunchy and sweet (but not too sweet). Basically, I wished I had taken this to the face crumbled the entire bar in my oats. And THAT is where we get to my only complaint: the bar is a bit calorie-dense, so I actually have to be careful with how much I eat — and I HATE being careful!

I love that the plank allows you to control how chunky and clustery your granola is. I mean, everyone knows the best part of the granola is the clusters, right? Well, get this — with Honest Foods planks, you can get clusters in every bite!

And almond butter fans — you’ll like knowing that Honest Foods bars “are baked with almond butter for an unbelievably moist, delicious and heart healthy snack that is never dry!”

Lemme tell ya — these bars are pretty amazing. They taste like a square shaped oatmeal cookie! So moist and very dense, these definitely keep your hunger at bay!

Are you a sucker for pretty packaging, too? Or am I the only loser?
