Fashion Friday – How to wear denim in the office

Happy Fashion Friday! SO excited to share our stunning participants!

But first, you have to hear from me — sorry! The outfit I chose to share this week highlights a denim jacket. Because right now is the perfect time for a denim jacket, right? The weather is warming up, but you never know (especially in Cleveland!) when it might cool down again or even start (gasp!) raining.

While I love my comfy, worn-in denim jacket, I also know it isn’t the most professional, work appropriate choice. But there are several denim jackets that transfer into workplace attire quite nicely.

You’ll want to select a denim jacket that has a darker wash — that will instantly make the look more professional. Also, leave the bedazzles at home, no one wants to try and make out ‘hottie’ or ‘rockstar’ from the jewels displayed across your back.

I’d also advise against wearing a jacket with holes or frayed edges. I have one that I wear out and about on the weekends, but I’m fairly certain that people at work wouldn’t find it as cute and charming as I do. Overall I’d go with these basic rules: dark wash, simple cut, structured fit.

Sue

Sue

This is my FAVORITE outfit that Sue has submitted thus far! I LOVE IT! It is so sophisticated and workplace friendly, without being drab and boring. The color contrast of the shirt is excellent and everything fits her perfectly.

Danielle

Danielle

Welcome back, Danielle! I am loving the mix of patterns! People, do NOT be afraid to mix patterns! If done correctly, it can create a fantastic look. Take lead from Danielle and make sure to pair smaller patterns with Larger bolder, prints. See how the floral shirt is a small delicate pattern? Paired up against the bold stripes, the pieces work WITH each other, instead of against. LOVE IT!

Elina

Welcome, Elina! Love this look, so simple and sophisticated! The belt really ties everything together and shows off your fantastic figure! Notice how much more interesting the outfit is with the punch of red Elina adds with her necklace.

Marion

Marion

This is Marion’s “lazy, at home relax outfit”. Gee, she looks a heck of a lot cuter than I do when I’m relaxing at home! You’ll find me in mismatched sweatpants with my hair in a knot - just keepin’ it real ;)  Somehow Marion has managed to look comfortable and relaxed, while still remaining simply adorable. (I’m taking notes from her, people– I’m a work in progress ;) )

Sherry

Sherry

Sherry joined a group of women who did Cluedo this week (how fun is that!?) and this was her Mrs. Peacock. Sherry, Mrs. Peacock would be proud. As usual, you look fantastic. The dress fits perfectly and shows off that rockin’ bod! I love the color, too!

Karen

Karen

Welcome, Karen! I’m so happy you’ve joined in on the fun ;) Karen’s simple, yet incredibly chic outfit reminds us how much ACCESSORIES can add to an outfit. I love the gauzy scarf and black cuff. The sweater also creates a great line and looks comfy without being sloppy. So cute!

Black cashmere sweater: C&C California
White tank: Hanes (men’s underwear dept!!- HA love it!)
Jeans: Levi’s (her dad’s hand-me-downs)
Scarf: Lulus.com
Black leather cuff: etsy

Wow! I would never normally think denim appropriate for the workplace, but you’re right, that IS how it should be worn! Great look :)

I keep forgetting to come check this section out – man, wish I had some kind of fashion sense!
I pretty much always wear denim to work – jeans and scruffy as anything. Our workplace is, well, very relaxed which means I don’t think about what I wear at all!
