The Mister and I have nothing to eat! This always happens to us. We always *think/plan* for going grocery shopping on Saturdays. Naturally, we are stupid enough to put up with the crowds go on Sunday. This means that on Saturday we have no fresh veggies or fruit! You would think we would have learned our lesson by now…I guess we’re just stubborn slow learners.
Luckily, after my amazing experience with Amy last week, I had stocked up on some more of her ‘meals’. I saw today as the perfect opportunity to test one of them out. When I originally spotted the chili and cornbread combo in the grocery store freezer, I knew I had to have it! Let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed!

Amy's chili and cornbread meal
I apologize for the sub-par pic! My camera’s battery was dead and I had to use the Mister’s iphone!
This was so incredibly delicious! I was worried that the cornbread would dry out, but it stayed moist and incredibly flavorful! — with ACTUAL corn kernels baked right in! The chili was packed with savory spices (but not too spicy for my wussy palette!) and filled my empty tummy up quickly! My only complaint was that the rice dried out a little, but it was still tasty
You can check out the ingredients and nutrition stats here – pretty impressive, eh? Thank you, Amy, for having such fantastic go-to meals
When do you go grocery shopping? What is your go-to meal when you cupboards are bare like good ol’ Mother Hubbard?

I go any weekend day for the most part. My go to meal is Annies macaroni and veggie dogs!
I am normally out of groceries on Friday and then when I go shopping on Saturday, its a mad rush out there.
Yummy meal!
I usually go grocery shopping on Saturdays as I get a bit anxious if there is too much “stuff” to do on Sundays…
When there is nothing else to eat, I make wheat pasta with sauteed veggies (whatever is left, usually onions, garlic, celery & carrots. If we are lucky also some mushrooms, bell peppers, etc….), tomato sauce, and cheese.
Hey there! I just found your awesome blog! Thank you so much for this great review of Amy’s. I’ve been seriously dying to know what these meals taste like, ESPECIALLY this southern meal with the cornbread, my favorite of all!! I’ll definitely be back to read more!
My go to meal is pasta and sauce. I always have noodles, and the boys mom always has me stocked up with frozen homemade pasta sauce! YUM
-I always try to go grocery shopping during the week, I work shift work so it makes it easier, and there is less people to go around.
Are you talking about the Amy’s organic frozen meals??? Because omg, they are all DEEEEEEEEELISH! If you haven’t tried any of the pizzas, I recommend you do so asap! hahaha they are unbelievable
I’m impressed that the cornbread turned out so well, I would’ve been weary of it too!! Glad it all came out nicely
We’ll have to brave the Sunday crowds too…*sigh*
Yum! That meal looks really good.
If our cupboards are bare, we love pasta with basil pesto, sweetcorn and lots of grated cheese. Simple, but so good!
{I checked out your wedding photos on your ‘About’ page – what a gorgeous couple you and the Mister make! Beautiful pictures.}
I’m glad that meal gets the two thumbs up because I’ve been dying to try it! I go grocery shopping whenever I need to restock but I prefer to go early, early in the morning.
I’m pretty lucky. Me and Boy live in Greece and have no car. This means we have to go grocery shopping (almost) EVERY DAY. Sometimes this bugs the crap out of me, but mostly it’s a good thing. Everything we buy is fresh. Our go-to meal when there’s nothing in the house has sometimes been fettucini alfredo = Boy likes pasta (so it’s always) around, we keep light cream in the fridge, and there’s always parmesan in a container in the freezer. It’s quick and easy and I sautee some vegetables usually and chuck them in. We’re good to go in about 20 minutes. Thankfully, this calorie-rich safety meal doesn’t occur often. But when it does, it’s YUMMY.
When the cupboards are bare I usually make rice and fry some red lentils, or maybe make eggs. There’s always *something* to eat
That’s one of my favorite Amy’s meals! I usually stock up on things like potstickers from trader joe’s plus garlic, beans, tomato puree, and onions so I can whip up some pasta or a bean dish.
