Daily Delish – breaking into the Easter basket stash ;)

Daily Delish

So I know I say this all the time, but my parents are pretty awesome. Instead of filling my Easter basket with sugary candy, my mom got me a few fashionable goodies, as well as some foodie treats — BARS! (Side note: my mother-in-law gave me and the Mister breakfast on her, whenever convenient, at our favorite spot!) — isn’t my family awesome? Anyway, I busted out one of my Easter basket bars today (SLIM pickins’ — of course the Mister had already gotten into the stash!).

I chose the Clif Nectar Lemon Vanilla Cashew bar. I was initially intrigued by the flavor pairings but after reading the ingredient list, I was sold: Organic Dates, Organic Cashews, Organic Goji Berries, Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate, Organic Vanilla.

From the Web site:

Made with five or fewer 100% organic ingredients, CLIF Nectar is the simplest expression of fruit and nuts. Bursting with flavor, CLIF Nectar Organic Fruit & Nut Bars are the essence of nature.

With the simplified ingredient list, these bars already had me thinking of LARA. But I liked that the calorie count was much lower than the standard LARA bar (as much as I love my LARAs!). The entire bar was only 160 calories.

DELISH! (duh, Shannon, it’s the daily delish!)

I loved the chunks of cashew and hints of lemon and vanilla. I felt like I was eating an extremely healthy lemon bar. It was so refreshing. I’d really like to try the Dark Chocolate Walnut! These bars did remind me a bit of LARA bars in their consistency, which isn’t surprising, given the same low count of ingredients. This made a great afternoon snack and will give me the energy I need to get through the afternoon.

The Mister and I are cooking sauteed mushrooms and spinach with garlic tonight along with grilled chicken. We’ll be spending the evening watching the Cavs play their second game in the first round of the playoffs. GO CAVS! (I’ll admit I’m a little bummed I’ll have to miss The Biggest Loser tonight. Oh well, that’s what DVR is for ;) )

Is you basketball team in the playoffs? Who are you rooting for?

Have you tried CLIF Nectar bars? Which flavor is your favorite?

I have tried Clif Nectar bars and I love that flavor. You should try the Dr. Weil bars, they are similar and extremely tasty!

I’ve never tried Clif Nectars, but I love the regular Clif Bars, and Larabars, of course :) I love the review & I really wanna go grab some now. Haha! Enjoy your dinner and game!

    Love, Meg

I’m so glad you did this review. I’m a huge fan of Larabars, but the calorie count always seemed a little high for a small snack (and I have no will power to cut it in half!) I will totally pick on of these up the next time I’m at WF.

Oh man. Those chunks make me want to go for that one!

My favorite Nectar as of yet is the Pomegranate ?Cherry?.. I think that’s flavor. So yummy.

Word on the street though, they’re discontinuing the Nectar line.

    Hope it’s just a rumor.
