‘Daily Delish’ – Cheese and Crackers

Categories:

Daily Delish

As I sit here wanting to eat my arm patiently, like the amazing wife I am (waiting for the Mister to get home so we can eat dinner together!), I figured I’d make myself a little snacky snack ;)

This weekend at Whole Foods, I picked up some of my favorite crackers: Suzie’s Flatbread with Rosemary and Olive Oil. It’s only 95 calories for three of these crackers and the Rosemary and Olive Oil is the perfect flavor pairing to compliment the crunchy cracker. Of course when I think of crackers, my mind instantly goes to one of my favorite foods — CHEESE! Because really, what good is a cracker without cheese? We don’t want naked crackers running around, do we? Of course not, this is a family-friendly site. ;)

Anyway, one of my go-to cheeses for cracker spreading is farmer cheese, specifically, Lifeway farmer cheese.

From the Lifeway Web site:

Lifeway’s Farmer’s Cheese is a cultured soft cheese made from an Old World European recipe. It adds unmistakable flavor and texture to the eating experience. This cheese is very low in fat, cholesterol and calories, and it has a distinctive, slightly acidulous, pleasantly smooth flavor.

I love farmers cheese because it provides a delicate creaminess without overpowering the flavors in the dish (or cracker!). For those of you who haven’t tried farmers cheese, I recommend giving it a whirl. But first timers– pick a flavorful cracker to pair it with! Like I said, it’s more of a creamy texture provider than it is a cheesy flavor provider (does that make sense?) — you just have to try it!

I often enjoy this snack with sliced tomatoes on top. The tomatoes taste great with the rosemary and olive oil flavoring!

Have any of you tried farmers cheese? What is your favorite way to enjoy it? What are some of your favorite tide-you-over snacks?

I enjoy cheese but it’s been driving my lactose intolerant self crazy lately, so I’ve been trying soy mozzarella cheese slices..they are a great alternative!

I LOVE me some cheese – but unfortunately my tummy does not :( so I stick with the totally not-fancy veggie cheese, or soy cheese…boring right?! I love your snack and I’m totally jealous :P

    Have a wonderful evening!

Me loves me some cheese too!! When my honey is home we like to get some aged white cheddar to enjoy with our red wine. Sans crackers. Straight up!

I keep light herbed cream cheese on hand quite often for a quick snack. Spread on a small whole wheat tortilla and rolled up is a fast hold-me-over….or take that and fill it with leafy greens and crunchy veggies for a light meal.

those crackers look so good! if i am snacking more out of boredom than hunger, i grab some fruit or raw veggies; if i need something more substantial, i usually grab some raw nuts.

  11. I’ve never tried farmer’s cheese, is it available at most markets??

It looks great with those crackers!!

    • Jenn — I’ve seen it at most grocery stores — even local chain stores like Giant Eagle or Kroger – sometimes it’s in the ‘kosher’ section (if they have one) I think the way the cheese is prepared meets kosher standards…who knew!?

  12. The crackers and farmer’s cheese look great. I love rosemary. I have to look for these crackers!

I haven’t eaten farmer’s cheese in a long time. But I used to put it on a backed potato (instead of sour cream), chives and a little salt and pepper.
