Daily Delish – New Sushi Joint

Today’s Daily Delish is actually from a meal the Mister and I shared with some friends over the weekend (Hi Josh and Leann!).

We love sushi. Like ohmygoodnessgottahaveitnow love it. We’d been wanting to try out “one of the best sushi places” in Cleveland for awhile now. The restaurant is known for having the freshest ingredients.

Pacific East, located in Coventry (a few blocks from where we live, which makes it even crazier that we haven’t been). Coventry is a trendy area in Cleveland, located near the Case Western Reserve University campus. The area has several trendy, affordable restaurants, as well as bars, coffee shops and fashion boutiques. The area hosts art walks, festivals and Farmer’s Markets throughout the summer, as well.

The restaurant’s Web site lists the top reasons they’re considered the best:
1.) We use only super premium short grain rice. (Not long grain or medium grain rice.)

2.) We use only pure rice vinegar which imported from Japan.

3.) We use quality blue fin tuna or toro (fatty tuna).  (Not yellow fin tuna, ahi tuna or frozen tuna.)

4.) We use only gold & silver grade nori (seaweed).

5.) We use only natural white pickle ginger.  (Not artificial pink color.)

6.) We use top grade wasabi to served our sushi.

7.) We carry the most sushi items than any other restaurant in Northeast Ohio.

I ordered the King Crab Maki roll and the Philidelphia Maki roll.
In the King Crab: King crab, avocado, lettuce, fish roe.
Philedelphia: Smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, scallion.

Verdict?
The sushi was amazing. For those of you who eat sushi regularly, you know what a difference fresh ingredients make.

This will definitely be a new ’stand-by’ for me and The Mister.

For anyone in the Cleveland area (or those visitng!), make sure to check out Pacific East.

Do you like sushi? What are your favorite flavor combos?

P.S- Special thanks to the Mister for letting me embarrass him and call attention to our table with my photography ;) I told him it’s something he’ll have to get used to ;)

How long did it take all of you to feel comfortable snapping photos of your food in public? (I think I’m almost there!)

I love any of the veg rolls, but my favourite are the yam rolls.

  2. K says:

I have never had sushi and I’m beginning to think I’m seriously missing out! Glad you guys had a great time :) I just realized you were in Cleveland – I’m from Detroit, yay for the Midwest!!

  3. Michelle says:

HA! I went for sushi with my boy this weekend too and I was whipping out the camera, haha! I like California rolls, Spider rolls, any veggie ones pretty much…I haven’t really tried too many but the ones I had this weekend were awesome! Glad you enjoyed!

  4. Jaime says:

I love me some sushi! I would have ordered what you ordered, but might have thrown in a spicy tuna roll too. :)

  5. kara says:

It depends. Sometimes I’ll still use my camera phone in a discreet way if I feel weird about the camera. I always think that people will just think I’m writing a food review for a newspaper or something :)

  6. Haleigh says:

Mmmm.. I am definitely in love with sushi. My favorite roll that I have had is called an ‘out of control’ roll, it was tuna, salmon and avocado wrapped in seaweed and japanese sticky rice, absolutely fantastic! Hope you enjoyed your Monday!

  7. Sagan says:

That sounds wonderful! I love rolls with salmon and asparagus… and there’s one roll at my favorite sushi place that has pumpkin too, it’s great. But no tempura- ew. I hate the texture.

  8. My fiance and I love sushi too!! We got engaged at a sushi place that sounds a lot like the one you went to… very traditional, very authentic, and AMAZING! I’m a huge fan of just straight up sashimi, but I also love anything with avocado!

  9. Kirwin says:

Mmmm…haven’t had sushi in a while. My favorite is the Rock n Roll…typically made with unagi and avocado. I also love maguro. Just maguro. My husband is a CA roll fan.

  10. Megan says:

omgggggg, sushi is my weakness!! ahhh, love it.

i still don’t feel comfortable taking pictures in public haha, I don’t know why, I wouldnt really care (or even notice) if other people were taking pictures of their food, but I feel creepy doing it.

  11. Run Saraaah- yam?! that sounds divine! I’ve never seen that on a menu — apparently I’m not going to the places that are amazingly delish!

K – You are definitely missing out! I’ll admit the consistency took a bit of getting used to, definitely an acquired taste. But now I get CRAVINGS! YAY Midwest! How bout this weather, huh? ;/

Michelle – we food photo seekers have to stick together!!

Jaime – spicy tuna is the Misters faaaavvvveee ;)

kara- I suppose the restaurnat thinking you are writing a review could only result in GOOD things, right? Bring on the free food ;)

Haleigh- that out of control roll sounds delish!

Sagan — PUMPKIN!!!! Oh my goodness, I must get my hands on one of those babies, what else was in it?

Mara — I’ve had sashimi a few times, I wish I had it more often (it’s soooo good for you! Not that sushi isn’t), but I just like all the flavors together in a roll!

Kirwin – also a huge fan of the maguro. yum yum yum.

Megan – I don’t know if i’ll ever get over the feeling that i’m being a creeper ;)

  12. The sushi place looks so good! I love rolls with avocado and all the dipping sauces!

  13. I love restaurant posts! :) Actually taking photos in public didn’t take me too long to get used to but I still have trouble talking about my blog to people I know in real life.

  14. Andrea- I know JUST what you mean! I was explaining my site to some friends this weekend and I was having trouble articulating some of my points. I think I confused them (and myself!) in the process. must. work. on. that. ;)

  15. Katie says:

I’m still not 100% comfortable taking photos when I’m in public. My husband and my parents are the only ones who know about the blog so far. I think I need one of those 30 second blurbs they always talk about in networking to describe my blog.

I LOVE sushi. Unfortunately, I can’t have it right now because I’m pregnant. I don’t like California rolls so that’s out. Your photos made me drool. Hope you enjoyed it!

  16. Elina says:

I love sushi. Definitely one of my favorite things!!
I have no problem taking pictures in public but the hubs gets embarrased sometimes :)

  17. Sushi is one of my favorite foods – and it’s good for you! My fiance and I went to a great sushi restaurant in Vegas last year and we couldn’t stop taking pics of our food. LOL!

  18. There’s a fantastic sushi joint near to were I live in liverpool. I’m the type of person who’s up for eating anything, but I’ve never had the guts to give sushi a try it just doesn’t look like my cup of tea.
My girlfriend is living on sushi at the moment, but when I look at it, my face instantly screws itself up. Going to have to give it a try one day

  19. Erin says:

I love Green Dragon (eel + avocado) and anything with tuna and salmon. I hate tempura though. Ruins it, imo. Your sushi looked fab!

  20. I’m totally comfortable snapping pictures in public! I was comfortable pretty instantly – turns out I have no shame! LOL ;)

Everyone else still cringes though. I think they were hoping it would be a one-off kind of deal!
