Fashion Friday! It’s all in the details…
Categories:
Happy Friday my lil’ fashionistas!
So I just returned from the dentist. No cavities! Yay! I may or may not have extended my time between visits a bit longer than usual (don’t judge, I have great oral hygiene! It’s just hard to make appointments!)…
Well, I survived those god awful metal tools — ACK! I despise those things. The sound they make on my teeth makes my skin crawl as I focus on the fact that layers of my tooth are being scraped off. I can just imagine the dental hygienist laughing under her stupid face mask. It’s horrific. Also — why do they insist on asking me questions while my mouth is spread wide open? It’s bad enough that I’m not allowed to swallow or move my tongue, but now you want me to try and communicate while you jut small tiny daggers around my mouth? thanks, but NO THANKS. I am a nice person. I like making small talk and meeting new people. I only take issue when I’m asked to do so while jagged tools are in my mouth! OK enough of my rant — teeth are healthy that’s all that matters.
I have two featured outfits to share today! Dressed up for the office and casual Friday.
I wanted to show you that workplace attire doesn’t need to be drab! With a few key accessories and whimsical details, your professional ensemble can be spiced up a bit.
Take a look (see gallery at end of post for more photos):
- Dolce and Gabbana grey skirt (on sale at SAKs outlet!)
-
Grey turtle neck, borrowed from my The Queen Fashionista herself, my mom
-
Belt purchased at Anthropolie a few years ago
-
Jacket — another SAKs outlet find
-
Shoes — Dillards, 75% off
-
Leggings — most likely TJMaxx (my sweet haven)
This is a great example of taking some classic pieces (grey skirt and turtle neck) and pairing it with items that show your personality! I love the splash of blue the belt brings to this outfit, Understated, colorful and funky.
What is your favorite way to turn an outfit from drab to fab??
Next outfit, casual Friday!

Casual Fashion

Pretty Cas', no?
I LOVE Fridays because it means I’m allowed to wear jeans! Not as cool as sweatpants, but certainly more liberating than pantyhose and skirts.
While I get to relax a bit with jeans, my wardrobe still has to remain professional.
Take a look at what I’m wearing today:
-
Long collared shirt – TJMaxx
-
T-shirt- Theory
-
Belt – Anthropologie
Except for the jeans and belt, all of these items are more than 3 years old. I have items in my closet that are from 8th grade. Unless it doesn’t fit, I don’t throw ANYTHING away. You never know how a new belt or scarf can transform a piece you feel is outdated or ugly. I’ve made so many cool, updated outfits from pieces more than 7 years old.
What is your favorite piece that you’ll always hold on to?
People always ask me how I tuck my jeans into my boots. It certainly helps if you start with slim fitting or ‘skinny’ jeans! For those of you who have trouble tucking jeans into boots, look no further.
Where are you Fashionistas (men and women!)?! Was the prize I mentioned not enough incentive to submit your photos? I’d love to see some of your outfits! Remember, email them to info@thedailybalance.com
